Lexus Minivan Assembly Starts In 2020, Japanese Paper Claims

By: Chris Bruce, Editor

Here's more proof that the Lexus minivan is actually happening.

Evidence continues to mount that a Lexus-badged minivan is on the way. The latest clue comes courtesy of recent sleuthing by Lexus Enthusiastuncovers a January story from the Chubu Keizai Shimbun newspaper, which focuses on business news in the Aichi, Gifu, Mie, and Tokai prefectures.

Could The Lexus Minivan Be Real?

Lexus Minivan Rendered To Imagine Carrying The Family In Style
Lexus Luxury Minivan Could Really Happen Next Month The report from Japan states that production of the minivan starts in 2020 at Toyota's Inabe factory. The site makes a lot of sense for building the model because the plant also builds the Toyota Alphard, Vellfire, and Hiace vans.

The automaker will focus on Asian markets, including China, for the Lexus minivan. The Chubu Keizai Shimbun report makes no mention of exports to the United States or Europe.

A recent teaser from the Lexus Taiwan Facebook page (below) shows the front end of a vehicle that could be the minivan. The mysterious model debuts at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 16, and the location fits with the Chubu Keizai Shimbun's claim of the van being available in China.

I wish they would bring it to the U.S. on a GA-L platform of course with AWD. I would lease it in a heart beat.

Interesting proposition, I just dont see this thing being a success if they plan huge numbers, since MPVs in the asian market is about price points. A luxury MPV will def work in low numbers as a hotel shuttle or expensive limo with space.

yeah, these are already popular in Asian regions.

too few will drive it here, and when 3rd row is in usage, it's way tooo small for any cargos, costco trips, soccer craps...

Belated April fools? Lol

if true, sure why not. Just another model to fill the Lexus stable, though who know if available stateside. Alphard or next gen Sienna platform could be in play

I guess a minivan would be a nice addition to the lineup.

i dont think they will bring it in US/EU, but not sure if anyone mentioned, top of the line Alphards are used as limo replacements in China, and they cost more than extended wheelbase S class.
Alphard and Vellfire also outsell whole Lexus brand in Japan.
