I like watching Doug Demuro and find him entertaining. To each his own.

I’ve never been a fan of the GN. Just not for me.

What is this supposed to mean?

I like Tavarish and Hoovey a lot. Doug I don't care for.

Wasn't aware I can't have an opinion.

I think Demuro is outstanding. It’s good entertainment and you sometimes get to learn something. Kudos to him for reviewing old cars.

As for the Buick Grand National. I do remember men used to lust after this car in the 80s.

What was cool about the review:
Body by Fisher
Litre spelled in Non US way
Only one Tri-Shield Logo
Cool Grand National Logo
LT or RT Turn
Every radio station in the US in the manual

....GM was such an awesome company back then.

Lol... he’s definitely quirky and nerdy, and sure, he may not know everything (who does?) but he does provide details that no other reviewers do. I find his ‘Doug scores’ to be completely stupid though.

You may (?) already be aware of this, but the 3800 actually goes back to the early-1960s Buick Special/Skylark compact, where it was the first American-market attempt by engineers to do a 90-degree bank V6, instead of the more modern 60-degree bank. It was, essentially, a cut-down version of the larger Buick 5.0L V8 (unlike today, GM's divisions all had different engines in those days). Early versions were known for a rough idle and general operation from the inherent firing-imbalance of having 6 cylinders at that bank-angle, but GM kept that engine in production so many years that it worked out virtually all the bugs in its design. By the time the 1980s and 90s rolled around, it had a reputation of being one of the best V6 powerplants on the market.

Fair enough; you're right. He does point out interesting things. However as I've detailed, I truly don't think he knows nearly as much about cars as he purports to. He has no clue what the original LS400 really was and what it was all about and what ground it broke, and that's just one example off the top of my head. There are more.

And yes we are in 100000% agreement, when I did watch his videos I would always skip the Doug score. Stupidest thing ever.

Oh yes, I know all about the 3800, and we've talked about it before. I grew up with several variants, know them well. I would not mind driving a 3800 even today. I posted an article a while back about how one of the big magazines had a retro review of a 1989 Oldsmobile Touring Sedan where they basically said it's a more satisfying powerplant than much of what's out today, with all the downsized turbo crap.

3800 powered cars had great low end torque and surprisingly good fuel economy, too. Definitely one of the all time great V6s.

exactly! it's not good for being a "sports car" by any means, but for the average american road you really just want big power and squishyness

driving the supra is almost the same idea and part of what gives it such a fun character, wait for it... wait for it... WHOAAAA!! the XJ220 and F40 were "praised" for that same "feature" of big turbo lag but being SO exciting when the boost comes in that it was all worth it... that bit of uncertainty added a level of drama that's lost by making a car "more refined" lol

if i wanted the perfect sports car i'd get a 911 because it's just about as good a sports car as one can ask for (997 model if you ask me), but most of the time you're not on a smooth twisty track, and generally it's preferable to have a fast land boat

i was definitely a bit salty after his LS 400 review lol, that was a bunch of silly contradictory drivel and i was relieved that the comments gave him crap about it haha

also i don't think he really purports to know that much (clearly he's quite ignorant at times), he just lets me down every so often by not fully stepping on it in the cars everyone wants most of all to see driven flat out, even if only briefly... although fair point it's easy to sit here and type pshhhh yea i'd floor it in a koenigsegg without actually being in it

I think Doug is one of the best, if not the best, English speaking reviewer on youtube. The worst one is Alex on autos, I can't even last two minutes listening to his annoying, mundane reviews.
