Default Lexus RC F Track Edition Takes Tuning to a New Level

Lexus RC F Track Edition Takes Tuning to a New Level

Lexus proves creating a time attack monster isn't all about crazy power.

Yes, and we know. The Lexus RCF IS already a crazy power car. Remember back then the F355 modena and the Lamborghini Diablo where slower or just around the same in performance. The track edition is even faster than a regular RCF.

The RCF has one weak point, though and it was largely discussed ; it's his weight. I put in a little side story there. I saw it lately with the Seat Ibiza that I had. The previous version was a true compact car. With 1050kg, it was light and the 1.2 tsi (105hp/crank) was actually pretty lively on such a light car. The next generation had the same engine, with a slightly wider body (10cm) and a tad longer (8cm)... that thing gained 150kg immediately with the same option list. The car became immediately more floaty in curves and the 1.2 was not that able anymore to really give that car the proper push his predecessor had.

Wider and longer cars simply are using more steel or plastic in every corner. So does the RCF. This car would loose nothing if he lost 5/10/20 cm mix on his dimensions. This would not require crazy R&D, and the weight factor would go down immedialty.

Also, for the regular RC's, I can understand the reason why you have "heavy doors", dual zone climatic and 17 speaker hifi systems, ... it is logical for a regualr RC. But would the experience be less effective with two manual seats, a single zone automatic clim, a 6 speaker hifi system and a toyota hardplast/carbon bodykit ? -> No, this would make the car lighter and less expensive in the same time.

If Lexus would grasp that, and apply some of the receipe above, the car could loose 300-400kg without excessive work and into going into exotic composite materials. If the car really looses 3-400kg, even the 5.1L v8 would be too much for that car. Going back to a smaller V8, or even a nextgen 2JZ would then be possible and the RC would become the next Supra.

We saw one of these today at Lexus. As dumb as the rear spoiler is, I think it is pretty awesome to see where Lexus has taken their brand. Although I don't agree with everything Lexus might doing, I do think the F models give consumers an alternative to AMG from the Mercedes brand, or Cadillac V. I think the RC models works best in F trim, as opposed to the cheaper RC models.

I enjoyed reading that the track edition has the torsen limited slip diff... a great feature.

the rc f track probably feels a lot like a mustang gt or gt350r or something to drive... they’re both pretty big and heavy, but tuned to some serious driving.

The recent Boss Mustang was probably more tuned to classic track driving than the regular GT. A number of reviewers actually compared it to the last-generation M3.

I think it is hard to figure out what the Lexus RC track compares with.

Right now, I agree...not much, although that could (?) change, if and when Toyota gets a street-legal version of the GR Supra Racing Concept.

It’s an awesome car up close. We had one at my local dealership and I thought the interior was incredible.

I see the closest competitors as the Mustang GT350 and the high performance Camaro. Relatively big and heavy cars with normally aspirated V-8 engines. Even the pricing is pretty close.
