I am a fan of them when they are well-appointed, like the ones in current Mercedes-Benz and say, the Kia Stinger. Metal or at least, metal-look trim is preferable. If they are wrapped in cheap plastic, I don't like them. I don't think I've ever owned a car with round vents. The ones in my IS are decidedly horizontal, which is generally my preference.
