Default Circular AC vents: are you a fan?

Pun in the title was not intended...

Have rented a couple of Ford products lately and struggling with the circular AC vents- the only model I found where they were well laid-out and provided excellent coverage is in the new Mustang- I'm guessing this is because the Mustang is much more cramped on the inside so air flows better (somehow I got a 5.0 GT as a rental even though I reserved a full size car). On other models, it seems no matter which way I twist and contort the vents I can't seem to get good air flow to the driver area - not nearly as good as in a traditional design. I like the look of them in models like Mercedes, but I'm not convinced of the functionality. Thoughts?

Not a deal breaker, but personally, no, I am not a fan of the style.

I have them in my Matrix. Meh, I don’t really like them. But I don’t really think about it very much.

That's a funny video. Looks like an older GM product...maybe (?) a Pontiac, since Pontiac used that type of vent for a number of years.

The reason the vent spun around like the housing like that, with varying fan-speed, is that it is held in at least partly by friction...the amount of friction between the plastic edge of the vent and its housing determines how easy it is to twist and adjust up/down or left/right. The cheap, low-quality plastic used for the vent wore away and made the fitting very loose....loose enough so that the air-flow, from the fan, coming through the vent, makes it spin like a top. I'd guess that the reason the other vent doesn't spin, under the same airflow, is that it was used less (on the passenger side) and the plastic simply didn't wear as fast.

Have them in my Mercedes, don’t love them don’t hate them. This is in all recent Mercedes, it’s called the “String of Pearls”

We had them in our Pontiac Vibe which had the same interior/dash as the Matrix and I feel the same. They heated and cooled the cabin just fine and never really thought about them being round. Not my favorite look though.

To me, it doesn't make much of a difference, but, for some people, round vents equates with sportiness. That's why you will find them in the Mazda Miata/Fiat Spyder, which is arguably the most pure sports-car on the American market....alhough the Miata also, oddly, has an oblong one under the video-screen. That's also why Pontiac used that general-style vent for years.....its sport-orientation.

I don't know if its just me but the AC is a lot colder in my GTR vs the RC F. Always had toyota so I can't say about other nissan product. But I do find the circular vent better flowing vs the square in the rc f

Now that it’s getting warmer, I’m finding my G3 IS 300 A/C doesn’t get cold as quickly as my BMW 328i or Acura TL

90s GM never fails to cause ensuing hilarity, even just saying oldsmobile aurora makes me start grinning

Have them in my Stinger. Three across the middle. As long as it fits within the overall design of the interior I don't care. I do like the fact that I have an extra vent to direct air though.

They work in some interiors, but not in others. They'd look silly in my RC-F, but they look good in my friend's TT-RS.

Kind of a funny pun in the thread title...
