It's good to have peace of mind when driving. Wife used to carry AAA, then we discovered that our insurance carrier (Amica) offered roadside assistance for $12 a year (per vehicle). Flat tire, towing, gasoline, locked out, dead battery... pretty good deal, I think.
With Volvo 29th out of 31 in dependability, free towing seen like a great choice for owners. We are on our sixth Lexus and can not imagine the day it would need to be towed. I truly think if my car manufacturer offered free towing that is sending out a red flag.
