Ram beats Silverado for a 2nd quarter. June sales up 56%. I was one of those sales
Congratulations. I don't remember you announcing that you are a new truck owner.
Ram sales are on a roll...a big one. While it is unlikely that they will equal or overtake those of the F-150, Ford had better keep at least one eye looking back over their shoulder.
IMO, one thing that has kept Silverado sales down (though I like their interiors) is the wonky front-end styling of certain 2019 and 2020 models.....and a hood line that is a mile above the pavement. The Ram, of course, has a much cleaner and less-controversial-looking front end.
“Ram has done things with incentives that we would be insane to follow,” said Jim Cain, a spokesperson for the Chevy brand. “We have a disciplined approach that focuses on delivering returns to investors. Ram is different since that company is basically for sale.”
then for august announce a 20% off MSRP, which is an even bigger factory MSRP discount than what I got on my Ram (15%)
General Motors is working on an update to the interiors of its all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Sources familiar with the matter told GM Authority that the new Silverado and Sierra pickups will see cabin updates in the near future, for either the 2021 or 2022 model years.
In fact, the Silverado and Sierra interior updates will coincide with a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE), otherwise known as a refresh, update or facelift, that will also deliver various updates to other parts of the trucks, including the exterior. One of those is expected to be the introduction of the much-rumored MultiPro tailgate for the Silverado. The flexible tailgate is currently available exclusively on the Sierra. However, we’ve been told that the focus of the refresh will be primarily on the cabin, particularly as it relates to mid- to high-end trim levels.
These fake MSRP’s with ‘huge’ discounts are total b.s. and yet another reason the ‘dealership’ model is a giant fail. Let dealers service vehicles, and let manufacturers sell direct. Go online, order the vehicle exactly how you want it, pick it up at a dealer or have it delivered to you, by manufacturer or agent/dealer. If dealer offers test drives, have manufacturer credit them for those (would have to be carefully secured so as not to allow dealers to file tons of fake test drive claims).
Will it be enough to earn back its second-place sales spot?
The battle for second place between Chevrolet and Ram has never been fiercer, especially since the latter won that spot in recent months. Chevy and GMC already have to contend with being second place behind the hot-selling Ford F-150, but the fact that it lost its spot to Ram has been deemed unacceptable. The problem for Chevy and GMC is that the latest Ram 1500 is simply a better truck regarding interiors. Compare the interior design and build quality of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2020 Ram 1500 and it’s not even close; the Ram has scored a knockout. Chevy, however, is gearing up for another round.
According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 will feature significantly revamped interiors featuring larger infotainment screens, higher quality materials, and an overall fit and finish improvement.
Offering attractive sales incentives is not enough to regain its number two sales spot, but rather building a full-size pickup truck with a high-quality interior that meets and/or beats that of its competitors will. There’s no way around it. But why didn’t GM give both trucks the interiors they clearly desperately needed when the current generation launched?
Inside sources claim GM got wind of the fact that Ram was ready to launch its new 1500 for 2019. Management initially did not want to launch the trucks at that time but decided there was no choice. GM did not want Ram to have the spotlight to itself. The sacrifice for speeding up the launch was not finishing the interiors to the class-leading standards as originally planned. GM will have a second chance for next year. Ram has also given its Motor City competitor a new benchmark, meaning it should also watch its back.
Meanwhile, Ford has some F-150 plans of its own. Chances are the 2021 F-150 redesign will feature new front and rear styling and a revolutionary new drivetrain with hybrid technology. Though still unconfirmed but highly likely, major interior improvements are expected. Detroit’s truck wars continue.

Well good, because it looks craptastic currently with seas of dull plastic
