BMW simply tried to follow the trend, but failed.

IMO, new 7 Series grille beautiful.
A step in the right direction for BMW.
More stately.
Though still not as stately as S Class, but more stately than A8.

This will really really help 7 Series sales.
This will really really cement 7 Series as replacement for 5LS.
Thus, the 7 Series & 5LS will swap sales positions.

The 7 Series will join the S Class to sell over 500/month.
With 5LS joining the likes of: Audi A8, Jaguar XJ & Genesis G90 - all of which sell under 500 units/month USA....

I get how they are saying that they needed more visual separation between the 7 and 5 Series. I just find it odd that the way they addressed that was purely with the grill.

I am yet to see one in real life with this new grill, so I'll reserve final judgement until then. So far I feel like it looks okay in some pictures, and awful in others, so I'm not really sure what to expect once I finally see one in the flesh.

I've been shopping the 5 Series as a possible replacement for our A6 and word on the street is the upcoming refresh will have the larger grill. I don't hate it but would have to get used to it. It looks better to me in person vs. pictures.

There are angles at which I think it looks okay, and angles at which it just really looks cartoonish...

But, if I'm buying a $100,000+ car, I want it to look good to me at every angle, and this car doesnt do that for me. S Class does, A8 does, even the 5LS does. $100k prestige sedans aren't the place to be "controversial"

Haha, totally disagree and i think your memory must be short.

first off the 5LS may not be controversial to you, but it certainly is to a lot of others. I think it’s pretty polarizing.

i think around 2007, the S-class with the rear weird wheel arch sloping down was plenty controversial.

then who can forget the bangle butt on the 7-series.

the s-class today is ‘establishment’ because it’s well known and they’ve only made minor tweaks to it in the past decade. I agree it looks great from all angles.

the a8 has been viewed as very boring to many people... i honestly don’t know what the latest one looks like and i never see them on the road. I think the new 7 series will do just fine and that the grille is probably having its intended effect of getting people talking about the car. The grille may not be for everyone, most of whom would or could never buy the car regardless of what they did to it, but take a look a rolls royce grille sometime.

I’m not a fan of HUGE grilles but the LCI 7 Series looks incredible.

Check out my video of the 2020 Alpina B7:

The Alpina B7 with the older smaller grill still looks much better. This is one of the best looking sedans I have seen. Everything is just about perfect.

Pretty sure I clearly said “to me”

All i know is the 7 series was a car that would have been one of my main likely choices to replace my LS460 when the time comes, but unless this looks a lot better in person this grill will cross it off my list.

I personally dont mind controversial as long as it is in a good way. The new BMW is not in a good controversial way. The Lexus spindle grill was not a good controversial design but it has been refined and more acceptable now to more people.

IMO, the upper part of the grille should have been even with the headlights to have one line across the front. I agree the car does look okay in the M-Sport form, but the grille is not a contributor to it.
