Z06 is reportedly getting the Blackwing 4.2 twin turbo V8.
Supposed to make over 700hp. Its a DOHC engine with all modern tech and should have higher rev range then the small block V8. Personally for me base version with NA V8 is more than enough - can’t wait for GrandSport model.

C7 was no joke but This C8 has really taken things to a whole new level.

lmaoooo no one would rather have that engine lol! Unless GM would freakout everyone and make a v10. The 4.2 is the best bet. And then after the trim for the supposed ZR1 or "Zora" will be a whopping quadruple digit horsepower w/ front wheels being electrically assisted by hybrid motors with a suspension that Ferrari Licenses from GM. This is looking like an amazing car.

2020 Chevy Corvette C8 is 'nearly sold out'

GM design chief pops the news at the Concours d'Elegance while showing the C8

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — The 2020 Chevy Corvette is just about booked up for the first year’s production run. Michael Simcoe, GM design chief, said as much at the Concours d’Elegance of America, as a gleaming C8 sat on the lawn.

“I think the orders have already hit the first year of production numbers,” Simcoe said when addressing the attentive, large crowd at the golf course. We pulled him aside afterwards, and asked Simcoe to elaborate. Turns out, the C8 is extremely close to being sold out for the 2020 model year, but it hasn’t officially hit the mark yet. “It’s nearly sold out. It’s so close that it’s bound to be sold out soon,” Simcoe told us.

What Simcoe wouldn’t elaborate on were production numbers. Chevy has been allowing folks to reserve a 2020 Corvettevia an online registration process, and it was also something folks could do right on the Concours grounds today. We don’t know how many Corvettes Chevy plans on selling for the C8’s first year of production. Therefore, we also don’t know how many reservations have been placed thus far. Corvette sales numbers have bounced around a lot throughout history, but it’s surpassed 30,000 sales in many of the better years the model has been around. It’s unclear at this point if Chevy is targeting high sales numbers like that in the first year of the mid-engine car.

We do know one thing, though. Time is running short to be one of the first mid-engine Corvette owners. Of course, there will be no shortage of C8s to be had in the future if you can stand waiting a little longer than others.

"“I think the orders have already hit the first year of production numbers,”

I'd bet the vast majority of those buyers paid over list.....some probably well over list.

GM authority says this engine has 550hp in the CT6 V Sport trim, that is not a good enough upgrade over the base engine. A 6.2 DOHC can easily have over 600 without the tradeoffs that come with turbos. Going from a NA 6.2 to a turbo 4.2 is a downgrade in my book

Wouldn't have taken a psychic to predict this. A car that nearly looks and performs like an exotic starting at $60K? It may take until year 3 to start seeing dealer stock. Until then, they'll all be presold.

Agreed; same here. I would be perfectly fine with the base engine, no matter how powerful the new Blackwing is.

Those old Cadillac Devilles with the pushrod 4.9 had plenty of pickup, of course the Northstar came and blew them away. But as time went on and the cars started to age, the Northstars were the first to the junkyard. I remember as I saw less and less of them over the years, the vast majority did not have the Northstar badge.

I agree...I also usually prefer a larger, NA engine to a smaller turbo, but the switch was done mostly to help satisfy CAFE and emission regs.

The 4.2 v8 twin turbo is DOCH.
While the NA 6.2 V8 is great engine it has its drawbacks.

In order to compete with the best they need an engine that can rev to high rpms and have power up top at high speeds.
This is what the new Blackwing V8 provides. This will give the Z06 ability to compete with cars like McLaren 570S and Ferrari 488 GTB etc.

For someone who has so much negativity on the C8, you seem to follow it very closely lol.
Are you preparing to put down a deposit on an order?

Welcome to Car Chat. We all routinely discuss vehicles that we probably aren't going to buy or lease.

No but we can finally see what the real pricing is instead of this 60k starting price which means nothing.

Besides, I have a viper already, also a mid engine, just not mid mounted
