Default Lexus Performance Driver School 8/2019

Signed up and attended the LPDS program at the Laguna Seca (Weathertech) raceway near Monterey...

They featured RC F, GS F, and LC500 vehicles. All are V8 +470 hp.

All in all it is a fun and educational experience and worth the almost $1K price tag. You get to use their cars, tires, and brakes with laps on the main track, an auto cross course, and spin training. The “Hot Laps” with a pro driver resets your thinking (that you are not as good as you may believe) and demonstrates the skills these drivers have while showing off the cars engineering features.

Scott Pruett stands out as the “Brand Ambassador” and being around him and the assembled team was impressive.

For our event, the LC500s were the track cars, the GS Fs (with the TVD) were the auto cross cars, and the RC Fs relegated to the spin exercises.

Partnered with another attendee, we first did laps and braking along with track position training and got 3 sessions each increasing the speed and feedback on each run. On our second run, we over heated the transmission on the LC (we were having a blast in Sport Plus mode) and the car shuts down to 50 mph but that did not happen in a different LC on the 3rd session....

The auto cross course was a lot of fun in the GS Fs and performed quite well. Knocking over a cone had a severe penalty (5 secs added - I did hit a cone but it did not topple so avoided that...). A fun experience.

The spin exercises were interesting and with traction control “off”, spinning the car and losing the back end and learning how to regain control may not be new for those living in snow/ice but for us out here on the West Coast (and not skiers) it was exhilarating.

Recommend this to anyone with the time and means....

A few pics...

A bit foggy in the morning over looking the auto cross.

Nice, still looks like a fun time.

Had fun in the donut exercises last time in the RC F too.

Pretty awesome story. Great to see Lexus looking after those who want to try and push Lexus cars to the limit.

Ps. One of the pics looks like the lane is on fire at first glance

Are they still doing the voucher/survey at the end of the event? If so, is it still RC F, GS F, and LC 500(not 500h?)

What is a voucher survey? For a new purchase?

Yeah, 2 years ago when I went, you filled out a survey at the end of the event and they e-mailed you a voucher to use on the new purchase of a Lexus performance vehicle.

No LC500h’s were used. They did have an LS500 on site and a pre-production model of the 2020 RC F “Track Edition” which Scott Pruett drove a few folks out on the Hot Lap with....

As far as I know, they do send a $5k voucher occasionally on a new purchase.
