With these numbers I am surprised. In July units sold was the lowest of all Lexus's except for the LC with 305 sold. Through July 2,035 have been sold for 2019. Compared to same period last year sales are down -51%. In comparison 4,960 ES's were sold in July.

This statement makes me reach a different (less optimistic) conclusion about the GS sticking around:
When the folks at Carbuzz pressed Christ for an answer on whether or not we can expect a successor to maybe be introduced soon, at which point the GS would be phased out, Christ deflected, only saying that they would be making appropriate announcements at a later and undecided time.
I think it's been said before, but the GS should live on as a more dedicated sporty/sleek sedan than it is now. The german brands have plenty of 4 door coupes. Let the ES go after volume and GS for image/performance.
I talked to a guy from Lexus corporate last week and the first thing I asked him was if the GS was staying around. He said they aren’t killing it at the moment but they really don’t know what’s going to happen with the car right now.
He stopped by our dealership and we got ask him questions. He says there are more vehicles getting released in the next few years but the plans for the GS are unknown right now. The GX was in the same boat but they refreshed the exterior for 2020.
Hope they don't kill the GS. Perhaps a good idea would be to add a taller version of the GS as a CUV to gain more economies of scale since it would sell it higher numbers.
Not sure why the blame is on SUV's and sedans not being popular for the problems of the GS. BMW, Mercedes still sell a lot of 5 series and E class, ES has been a big hit, G80 was selling very well until the dealership problem happened. This news is not all that different than what were expecting, they will keep selling the basic model for a few years and aren't yanking it yet. The real news we want to hear is if they are doing a next gen.
Problem with the GS started in 2016 when they raised the price for the 6 cylinder, took away the good lease deals/incentives, added a crappy 4 cylinder, and cocked the styling up/seemed to reduce performance for the 6 cylinder. Sales plummeted after that, 2013-2015 sales were not bad.
If they dropped the turbo 6 from the LS500 in the GS or a affordable V8 option around 420hp and did not charge a big premium for either it would boost sales, interest, and would definitely further differentiate it from the new ES. A less goofy, more conservative styling update to get it back to the 2013-2015 overall look would be nice too.

Agreed. Toyota doesn't offer a decent performance powertrain anymore. Everything they offer is the worst in its segment outside of its hybrids. Oldest V6. Oldest V8. Crappiest turbo 4. At least they got their chassis sorted.

These are all sedans in the $50-60k range. It's not class competitive for a top of the line 6 cylinder. If they had a v6 with a turbo that was above the 2GR, I would be fine with it but since I couldn't get a class competitive product, I had to go elsewhere. The 2GR guzzles gas like crazy too. I was averaging 17mpg. The engine was good up to but had a crappy torque curve. Kinda gutless at the lower RPMs.
Speed is cheap these days so lexus needs to step up big time or it's going to lose its younger customers.

Exactly, if Lexus had offered something competative I would have gone with them. Instead, I ended up with a Q50 RS, I talked them down to $44K out the door. Cheap Tunes are giving this car mid 400 HP to the wheels and torque pushing 600 Pound feet. Toyota needs to step it up and release an IS F
Q50 RS, S4, and M340i are on a different level because they are mid to high level performance sub-brands. G70 is an outlier but still gets grouped with them.
The most direct IS350 competitors would currently be the Q50 3.0T (300hp), S60 (318hp), TLX (290hp)
