Smile Late 2019/Early 2020 Major Auto Show Schedule

As I typically post each year, here are some of the major auto shows coming up, so those of you who are interested can plan in advance and work them into your schedule.

Jill.....since I forgot your show the last couple of years, I'll start with you (and others in the Toronto area) this time. The Canadian International Show will be from February 13 - 23, 2020 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center.

https://www.mtccc.com/single-event/c...uto-show-2020/

The Los Angeles Auto Show will be from November 22 to December 1, 2019, at the L.A. Convention Center. Recently, we have seen a number of new-vehicle introductions and unveilings there....which makes sense, as it is now considered the country's largest new-vehicle market.

(I hope that Ford unveils the new Bronco there, but I suspect that, since it is now considered a 2021 model-year-vehicle, not a 2020, they may wait and unveil it somewhere else...or just wait for another show, or do it apart from a show, like Chevy did with the mid-engine Corvette)

https://laautoshow.com

There's a BIG change at the Detroit/North American International Show, typically the largest show in the industry......though L.A. has almost caught up to it in importance, and the D.C. show has gotten significantly larger and more important in recent years. Next year, the Detroit show will be from moved from January to June.......June 6 - 20, 2020 (including the pre-show events). Since that is six months later than they have had it in the past, it will be interesting to see how many new-vehicle introductions they will continue having there. Detroit's weather, however, can be absolutely miserable in January, so perhaps having the show in warm weather makes sense. I remember one time (don't recall exactly which year), where, on the opening-date of the show, it was -18 degrees outside, a strong wind blowing, and something like a foot or a foot and a half of snow that had to be cleared. I suspect that the Toronto show in February, weather-wise, is sometimes not a piece of cake, either.

https://naias.com

The New York International Show will be held from April 10 - April 19, 2020, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.....the April date for them is traditional. This is a very big show, despite the fact that the city itself relies on mass-transit more than many other American cities do, and much of the population doesn't even own a vehicle.

https://www.autoshowny.com

The Atlanta International Auto Show will be held from February 26 - March 1, 2020, at the Georgia World Congress Center. Atlanta is now a huge new-vehicle market...(arguably) the third-largest in the U.S., behind Los Angeles and the D.C/Baltimore region.

https://10times.com/atlanta-international-auto

Tex2670, I suspect that you, Johnhav430, and some others may want to plan for the Philadelphia show. It will be held on February 8 - 17, 2020....almost concurrent with Baltimore.

https://www.phillyautoshow.com/show-info/show-dates/

For those of you in the Baltimore area, if you don't make it to the D.C. show, the Motor Trend International Show in Baltimore will be held, in its customary February period, at the Baltimore Convention center, from February 6 - 9, 2020.

http://autoshowbaltimore.com

And, of course, my stomping-grounds....the Washington, D.C. Auto Show. Last time, they moved it from January to early April...I didn't care for that, for several reasons. Next year, it moves back to late January.......January 24 - February 2, 2020. The D.C. show differs from some of the other major shows in that it is more locally dealer-sponsored (WANADA) than from the manufacturers themselves, though the manufacturers do send "Product Specialists" to co-ordinate things and answer questions. Besides now being in the second-largest new-vehicle market in the country (behind Los Angeles), it is also the show nearest the Federal Government, where the U.S. auto industry is regulated, and Presidents and Members of Congress sometimes attend. Also (I believe unique to this show), free tickets and show-passes can often be had just by stopping at new-vehicle dealerships in the D.C. area and asking for them...they usually will give you a couple if they have any on hand. A couple of years, I managed to get VIP passes....each one is good for 4 persons. I remember, when I was a Saturn customer back in the 1990s, Saturn would send me a couple of tickets in the mail each year, in addition to what I picked up at the dealership.

They forgot Atlanta (February 26 - Mach 1). I suspect that's the show you'd be most interested in.....unless there is a closer one in Florida. But Atlanta is a big show now.

Assume SF is this year?
i added that and atlanta to my post.

mmarshall, as for atlanta auto show, thanks, but auto shows don’t do much for me, and not driving 6 hours to a hell hole of traffic (not to mention expense) for that show. When i went in years past i thought it was pretty much a waste of time - seems more a dealer showroom type of show. But as you know, i think almost all of these shows are a waste of time, and apparently so do more and more manufacturers.

Thanks, added that into my post too. Interesting that it’s the same dates as Philadelphia.

While I don't quite feel the same way, I can't say I totally disagree with you, either. First, if you have to pay for your own tickets down there (Bummer). Second, the typical show's content, IMO, gets more and more boring each year...last year, especially, they were little more than crossover/truck/EV events, and probably will be even more so this year. The type of vehicles I want are almost non-existant at the shows any more. One exciting new model coming up, however, will be the Ford Bronco...Hopefully, we will see it at L.A., maybe later.

On an unrelated topic, keep an eye on Dorian's forecast. Florida is at a significant risk in the next few days, though latest models shift the projected track a little to the East and more of a threat to coastal parts of Georgia and the Carolinas.

Philly's a little on the late side this year. I wonder what's pushing it back. They will need to clear out quick to get ready for the Flower Show.

thanks, having been here a while, not concerned unless it was a close to a bulls-eye where i live, which it almost certainly won't be. plus unlike earthquakes, we have warning so could always drive out of town.

The rescheduling of the Philly show could have something to do with being in a tight spot scheduling wise. There is already a major show in Central Pa ( https://www.autoshowharrisburg.com/ ) over Jan 23-26 and if you were an organizer of the Philly show, it seems like Mid Feb is the next best available option. Competing shows within state on the same weekend will not work.

Los Angeles: November 22 to December 1, 2019
San Francisco: November 28 - December 2, 2019

2020 year:
Silicon Valley (San Jose) show January 9 - 12, 2020 Silicon Valley Auto Show
Harrisburg PA auto show January 23-26, 2020 https://www.autoshowharrisburg.com/
Washington DC: January 24 - February 2, 2020

Super Bowl LIV -- February 2, 2020 in Miami Gardens, Florida (had to put this in here for obvious reasons to explain the jammed up schedule in February)

Baltimore: February 6 - 9, 2020
Chicago February 8-17, 2020
Philadelphia: February 8 - 17, 2020
Toronto: February 13 - 23, 2020
Pittsburgh Auto Show February 17-20 https://www.pittautoshow.com/
Atlanta: February 26 - Mach 1, 2020

New York: April 10 - April 19, 2020

Detroit: June 6 - 20, 2020
