How a Sunroof Works
Here's how the sunroof works on your car:
Removing the sunroof requires removing the headliner and dropping it down. Here is the full assembly:
These tabs are all that hold the glass assembly to the mechanism:
This is the motor and its controller:
Sunroof linkages that allow the tilting into the body when retracting, and the vent function:
The mechanism locks when retracting, and unlocks when sliding forward at its "home" position:
The sunroof has a drain channel that goes all around the perimeter of the glass:
The cable has a spiral on it that engage the motor's gear train. It's also fuzzy like a pipe cleaner to help it slide inside the track:
