Toyota could not only save some money by bringing this car over, but they'd also make a good deal of enthusiasts very happy.

If there's no 5GS in the next few years and they decide to bring the Crown, i'd definitely consider it! If they brought it over, can't imagine it costing more than $50,000 USD.

Is there even a left-hand drive version of it? If so, yes, I'd be strongly in favor of getting an American version (might even consider one). This is EXACTLY what is needed in the American market, and what we have a chronic shortage of, and getting worse)...big, plush sedans.

(Excellent post, Editor)

Isn’t it basically a GS anyway? If so, and since the GS isn’t selling well at all, bringing this over would be a disaster.

I’d love to see the Crown in America.

As I understand it, it is a non-sport-oriented GS....more for sedate drivers. Pretty much the kind of sedan I like.

Sharp looking car, for sure. I would think Lexus would be concerned about cannibalizing sales of the GS? And given that everyone seems to be moving toward crossovers, I'd think bringing it to the States would be a tough sell.

The GS and the Crown have long been linked, and it's my understanding that this is what the new GS, if there were to be one, would be sharing a platform with. So if it came here, it would be sold as a GS. And had I not given up on a new one and bought a 19 GS, then yes, I would happily sign up for this car.

Yeah the GS is actually based on the Crown Athlete sub-model:

You probably know more about it than I do. I'm not really that familiar with the Athlete Crown model....when I think of the Crown, I think more of a limo...the way it (more or less) was for years.

I wonder if at some point in the near future will the market suffer some sort of backlash from crossover infestation? Like folks may just wake up one day and say I want a normal sedan and not some small slightly lifted wagon! I may be biased since I've never been into crossovers but at some point, something has got to give, right?

Only a sample of 1 but I went back to a sedan last year after a dozen years with 2 suvs. Occasionally the suv room would be nice, but i’ve very much enjoyed my sedan. A somewhat higher seating position / entry would be nice, but it would be hard to find an suv with more leg room that my g90, although typically suv occupants sit more upright (seat cushion is higher so legs go more ‘down’ than ‘out’ so it’s just different.

But the biggest thing i didn’t like about my explorer and jeep grand cherokee was not enough 2nd row leg room as being tall in the driver’s seat i always moved my seat up if anyone was sitting behind me whereas in my g90 i don’t need to.

so if i do go back to an suv it will be a roomy 5 seater or an enormous 3 row one.

Maybe you’re thinking of the Toyota Century?

You can bet the rent money that something indeed will give. ....but time will tell exactly how. That part (exactly how), I can't predict with a crystal ball.
