Anyone know how many gallons of gas this country uses for automobiles every year? I did some searching and didn’t come up with what I am looking for. If you know, post it!

This comes from a conversation with a friend, he believes gas prices has no effect on the economy, I say they do. I was looking for total gallons used, then I could multiply by say 50 cents a gallon to show how much money comes out of pocket for this, it may only be a couple hundred per person, but over millions of people that is a lot of coin.

The US consumes about 19.5 Million barrels of oil per day. The volume of motor gasoline refined from a standard 44-gallon barrel is about 20 gallons. Using these numbers, the US consumption of gasoline is about 360 million gallons per day - for all purposes - or over 129 BILLION gallons of gasoline and diesel every year. Of that figure, according to the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association, we burn over 115 Billion gallons in our personal vehicles.
