Was looking at the motor thinking Lexus LS powered but couldn't make sense of the engine. Chevy LS powered...

Yeah, might have been interesting them to go with the V8 from an LS, just to keep it in the family. This thing must be a hoot to drive!

I loved those Celicas as a kid. My aunt had a yellow one.

I agree, but the article doesn't make the claim that it is one. They refer to it as a "build" and a "transformation" which I would agree is a good characterization of what they did.

I used to see these around occasionally — all kinds of shape — when I lived in LA. But I haven't see one since I moved back to Seattle.
