Have started seeing multiple new Highlanders on the road, I cannot get past the huge FWD front overhang...looks way more pronounced than on the outgoing Highlander IMO...otherwise they are quite attractive

I think the front overhang on Highlander is not too bad.
While front overhang on Camry is quite modestly short.
I find it hard to get past the huge front overhang on ES.

I have never understood the obsession with front overhangs. The rear overhangs on some RWD look awful. LS400 is the worst in back. I always thought any car should have equal front and equal rears. Equal front and equal rear always look best to me

But back to the Highlander. I have been seeing them now all over the place. They look great IMO.

I think it looks ugly. Rear overhangs have shortened tremendously (or the look of them at least) as sedans have stopped being a 3 box design and have rear windows that slope back into the trunk lid.

I just dislike FWD proportions in vehicles.

FYI, this Caddy (Dark Cherry) is listed for $12k and has 93k miles. This place has others too, must be their specialty. I've never heard of them but they aren't too far from me.

I think that Cadillac was outstanding. Same with the Roadmaster by a certain brand that starts with a B

I have the same issue with a lot of vehicles. I look at something like the CX-9 and think it looks great from a lot of angles, except the straight-on side view!

Yep, big drawback of a FWD based vehicle IMHO. Volvo is currently the best at hiding it.

And these days, Audi actually mounts both the clutch/torque converter and gearbox "behind" the front axle too - to better achieve near 50/50 weight distribution.

Old Audis with flywheel and torque converter in front of the front axle.

Modern Audis with flywheel, torque converter/clutch and gear box - behind the front axle.

Volvo has the luxury of all their engines being 4 cylinders, so they don't take up much space in the hood.

Went and looked at the new Highlander last week and came away very disappointed. It is flat out ugly. Huge front overhang, strange grille details, flabby and soft side styling, and nothing too special inside. It didn't take more than a few seconds to be turned off.

I had 2016 A6 (in this color). It had the slightly lower sport suspension with 19" wheels which for some reason visually seemed to help with the look. Great car btw.

Audi's key is that they mount the engines longitudinally like in a RWD car, rather than transversely like almost every other FWD-based car. And as peteharvey pointed out, they have moved the entire transmission behind the front axle (again, just like in a RWD car), which has allowed them to further reduce how far forward the engine sits.
