I can’t think of a segment where the best selling anything is actually the best car. F150 isn’t the best pickup, Camry is FAR from the best car, Corolla far from the best compact car...

It being the best selling doesn’t mean anything to me as a consumer. People like safe mediocrity. This RX is the definition of mediocrity. But it’s cheap, and reliable and for people who don’t care about cars this is great I guess.

2005 was 15 years ago! And it wasn’t that far off then as it is now.

Lol. Look up the S class engines in 05 and 06. 300-600hp motors. Dwarfed the LS motor. S class had not one but two V8 motors to choose. And a V12. It was MUCH farther then. There was a 320, 500, and 600 then. Then were the amg class models.

Default New Lexus V8 Engine to Debut at Nürburgring 24 Hrs Race

Apparently it's supposed to be a 4.0L twin turbo with 600hp. Maybe it'll wind up in the LC 500 F?

In 05 and 06 there were two V8 S Classes outside of the 600 and AMG etc. The S430 and the S500. The S430 had LESS power than the LS430 and the S500 had more. LS430 had 290 hp, the S430 had 275hp and the S500 had 302 hp. Hardly a "dwarfed". The 740 BMW was a V8 also and it had 325 hp. Today, the V8 S Class makes 463 HP and the V8 7 Series makes 523 hp...the V8 Lexus LS no longer exists.

Then a year later....S-Class hp numbers hit much higher numbers....the LS460 comes out a bit later and is somewhat it between the base V8 and the upgrade V8....No Lexus V12

Todays Lexus 3.5tt is in-between the base 6 S class and the optional 8...no V12.

Back then, Lexus also had no cabriolet, no 2 seat roadsters. No door S-class competitors. No amg type stuff at the time.

Where were all the naysayers back then?

You said in 2005 the S Class engines dwarfed the LS, which is not true.

Those engine changes came in 2007 when the S Class was totally redesigned. There was no base and upgrade V8 any longer, just the S550. The LS was also totally redesigned, and the naysayers absolutely existed at that point.

There was a coupe/convertible, the SC

And you yourself have said the lack of a V8 is a huge problem for the LS, i fact you said that was why it didn’t sell well so don’t try and change your story on us now lol

Remember in 1998 Lexus had the fastest sedan in the world in the GS400.

The SC did not have three engines like the SL did.

But the S class engines did. There were three different choices. Two V8, and a V12. The 4.3 was in between the two 8s. Not much different today where the 3.5 is in between the the 6 and 8 from the MB.

S class had a coupe model. LA never did.

Lexus LS sales are tanking because all sedan sales are done. A V8 would wont save the LS. Cancel the LS and move the lineage to the crossover like a X7 and they will be fine.

The 2007 S Class did not have two non AMG V8 engine options in the US. It had one 4.4L V 8 that put out 382 HP. LS460 in 2007 put out 380 HP. No difference. Gotta admit you were wrong on this one Jill.

And just because the SC didn’t have multiple engine options didn’t mean it didn’t exist.

As for the LS, we’ve had this same argument with you on the other side. Just being a contrarian again so I’m not going to play along.

Worldwide, there was a S450, S550 and S600. We had it in Canada. For some odd reason the US did not get it.

No worries. We don’t have to agree. I don’t agree with your arguments against Lexus. I recall you once saying that you were thinking of keeping your LS460 and buying it out and then leasing an Lexus LC500 for fun...So obviously there is some appeal to the Lexus brand for you. I just don’t see Lexus being any different than they were in 1995, 2005, or today. Same place....but more interesting. Far more offerings than ever before

Where are these cheap RX's you speak of? I'll take a few more if they are cheap Judging the 2020 RX by a loaner car is like coming to a conclusion about a M5 having driven a 530i. Ok, that's a little exaggerated, but the RX 450HL with luxury package doesn't drive or feel like a base RX at all. Drive one. FYI, I care about cars

Do you actually use the 3rd row?

My LS460 is very appealing, the LS500 is not. I have also said the LC is the only compelling product they currently make. More offerings if you like transverse FWD rebadged Toyota models.

Lexus is very different today than it as in the 90s and 2000s. But what do i know, I’ve only bought 7 Lexus cars over the past 22 years.

The RX is quite cheap for its size profile, it’s value is no doubt part of its appeal.

Ive driven the RX hybrid. I don’t like the way hybrids drive, wouldn’t be for me. The L RX doesn’t have enough space to be a usable 3 row vehicle, wouldn’t be for me either.
