Not really. They still run, unlike BMWs for example. We neglect the IS350 bc it's just a throw away car that we will be rid of ASAP and it's a little rough around the edges with dirty headlights and an underneath plastic panel we need to replace but it's FAR from a junker. I'm wayyy over on everything (normal maint) it needs. It has around 100k miles. Drives perfectly fine.

You can have a Lexus and neglect TF out of it, just like a Toyota, and it will still run.

Тhis is straight up nonsense. I've owned several Lexus cars, I should know better.

So have I. They're Toyotas made with Denso parts....they can take an insane amount of abuse.

You made a blanket statement that any car over 100k and 10 years old is a "junker" which I couldn't disagree more with so I don't think we're gonna get anywhere here.

That IS350 is probably faster than your 4.3L V8

If you are "wayyy over" on maintenance than its not neglected, its well maintained. "Neglected" doesnt mean having dirty headlights and a cracked plastic panel underneath LOL

Now, don't change the oil in that Lexus for 100k miles and thats neglect. See how well it runs.

No, I mean I'm wayyy over the mileage where normal maintenance crap needs to be done to it and I have no plans to do any of it.

And of course, any motor would be toast after 100k with no oil change, lol.

I promise you that your vehicle is well maintained compared to what Och is talking about.

Oh yes it is. But it doesn't feel as fast because it doesn't have nearly the torque.

And engine vs. engine there's no comparison in terms of smoothness and refinement. I'm really not that blown away by the Toyota 3.5 to be honest, my Acuras and Infinitis had smoother V6s. Though those were definitely not as potent; I will give the 3.5 its due credit there. It's a monster once it gets its revs up.

I know from a stop it be over fast vs my LS430 but I'm not so sure at high speeds.

One thing I will say about infotainment is having Apple CarPlay does help negate the issue of outdated infotainment somewhat.

Somewhat?? How about 90%! I will NEVER buy another new vehicle with the ridiculous factory navigation that’s already out of date when the car is on the showroom floor. I’m weighing my options & looking for systems that will give me CarPlay. Then I can use Google Maps or Waze or whatever happens to come along & my stupid screen won’t show me driving thru a freak’n field in the middle of nowhere. The radio/CD technology doesn’t really go out of date per say, but the navigation is a butt-burner. I recently read that BMW has reversed its decision to charge a subscription to use CarPlay/Android Auto.

I don't know that I would go to 90%, for instance part of these systems goes to vehicle customization, menu structure etc. Lexus is way behind there too, BMWs and MBs and Audis have very slick menus with tons of customizable features and displays. CarPlay solves the issue with navigation, but not much else.

Was perusing Quora. Lots of discussion about Lexus vs Mercedes. Most if not all say, if they were using their own money (and responsible for the upkeep) and not financing or leasing, they would buy a Lexus over a German car. Would that be agreeable on here? Is there anyone on here who consistently buys German cars for cash? There are also some that claim that German cars outside of North America are not always such money pits.

Just read their forums; I haven't in a while but it's different over there, that's for sure. Apparently (duh) the AMG cars are an absolute nightmare.

Maybe stripped down taxis over there in Germany last a while, but all the "fancy" junk that comes with the German cars exported to the USA/Canada probably boggles the durability down.
