Lexus Confronts Midlife Crisis With Aging SUVs Losing to Rivals

I limited nothing. I was responding to (and quoted) this:
I guess technically V6 isn't in there, so I did arbitrarily eliminate 3.5L engines with a cylinder count other than six.

I see what you are saying now. I don't think there is anything wrong with the 3.5V6. it makes 300 plus horses. I think it has the best fuel economy for the intended segment. Yes, GS could use a different engine. But all of the competitor in the RX, ES or Avalon arena, the Toyota engine is pretty competitive.

This completely ignores the primary point of my post--that the field of 3.5L NA V6 is not exactly flush at the present time, so being at the top of a tiny pile isn't actually that big of an accomplishment. If the 15-year-old 2GR is in fact a better engine than the 20-year-old Honda J-series and the 25-year-old Nissan VQ, that still doesn't really speak volumes.
And yeah displacement of NA V6 engines is rarely the same across makes, so limiting it to just 3 5 exactly is a bit limiting...

Well, yeah, but the Toyota V6 won't implode at 80k or less. We have the 3.5 in our IS350, which is strictly a throw away vehicle we are waiting to trade in (lol for an "old" LX or GX BOF)....we neglect the heck out of it bc we are getting rid of it soon and it still sings just fine. I think it's been 5,000 miles over since we've changed the oil.

Got yeah. I see what you mean. I was skeptical in the past about Toyota when they decided to keep their NA engines. But the 3.5 is pretty good. I do think the 5.0 in the LC might be a little long in the tooth.

Thus, at the end of the day, it is horses for courses and each to their own.
If you like outright performance and economy, go small capacity turbo.
If you like refinement, go atmospheric.
Overall, Lexus sales and profitability is doing fine.
It costs very little to modify a FWD-based Toyota platform into a Lexus, so Lexus makes very good money.
The intermediate lies in hybrids and plug-ins, the latter of which TMC is moving into.
While the future lies in electric.

Yeah, the 5.0 V8 has been around for a while now. But it's my favorite Lexus engine! It makes music to my ears I trust it for long term reliability. I'm going to enjoy it while they are still making them!

A BIG distinction to your post. You actually own a LC. A big difference compared to others (even myself) who just want to complain or be negative. Thanks for chiming in. (I do have no doubt a turbo Lexus will be reliable too)
