Lexus Finally Makes A Decision About Aging IS Sedan

I think the current IS facelift was a downgrade. The changed air intake openings up front have a strange (backward) shape to them, compared to the first version (more in line with current trends). And the saggy taillights (when lit) look droopy. Hope they fix things with the upcoming change.
Regardless, I feel it's weak to offer TWO facelifts for any model. I guess I'm used to most cars/SUV's getting one facelift, as has been done for the past forty years. If you strip everything away, this is just a cost-savings method that is gaining momentum. I don't think we are better off for it, as far as car owners and enthusiasts go.

The stinger is an example of great brand enhancement package, but next to no volume sales, as evidenced by the deep dealer discounts. I guess the same line of thinking exists for the IS, and by extension the now axed GS. Would Lexus be able to bring in new buyers or are the vocal few just from the existing demographic

It is probably a smart move for Toyota to forgo a full redesign of a new IS. Sedans are a declining segment and the IS was never really taking all that seriously when compared to a BMW or Mercedes which most people almost automatically over the IS. A very tough segment to offer a car in.

Amen! Time to move on to where the 'sales volume' is or boldly make the market in the SUV/Crossover space. ES should be due for an AWD option. More can afford this car than a LS500. RX is becoming dated. Lexus has to prioritize where the $$ is coming from. New niche cars or a re-introduction of GS wont cause Tesla/Stinger/G70/BMW/Audi owners give up their cars en-masse.

Needs to be larger, too. IS is a very small vehicle. (One of reasons we want rid of ours.) 3 Series and C-Class are nicely sized now.

Hence why the already cancelled the GS successor and pivoted it as the next gen Mirai.
