I just read the article above, and I only found two distinct issues: the hatch rattle and the warped rotors - the latter of which is likely driver-induced.

Some might argue that the problems are not major. But annoying.

Autoblog also had issues as well.

This! Again, not to make excuses, but these issues would not keep me from buying the car.

As far as Jill’s statement regarding lease/buy - these cars, despite huge incentives still lease like crap. At ~$450/month, there are quite a few cars I would rather drive. At $27k (purchase price), that list shrinks exponentially.

So you would rather buy it and not lease it? Is what you are saying.

stasek is saying buy is a better deal with those incentives.

you continue your irrational constant bashing of hyundai/genesis... great cars, great value, very reliable today, but hey, keep living in the past.

It’s complicated.... as I’ve mentioned before, leasing makes perfect sense - in certain situations. Due to some work changes, I’ll most like be driving closer to 20k/a year, I could go for 15k/year lease, but now I’m looking at probably closer to $500/month for this particular car. At this price, I think I would rather drive something like a BMW 430 or possibly 440.

Now, to get the rock bottom price, you need the lease incentives. In addition to the typical buy and lease situations, there’s another option which was quite popular with GM years ago - balloon financing.
With Kia, you get the lease cash, but the car is titled in your name and you don’t pay the lease inception and disposition fees. The. APR Kia offers on this is abysmal, but what most people do is use this program to get the best deal and pay off the balance with either cash or refinance (through third party institution, using normal rates).

I would have already bought the car, but unfortunately most finance managers have no idea how the program works, so I told them - figure it out, and let me know when you have, so I don’t spend half a day at the dealership doing what should take 30 minutes. Still waiting for the call🤦‍♂️.

So for the substantial discount involved. I would buy this car, everything points to the purchase. That takes into account the issues that I have read about (lots of brake issues and annoying stuff) If you can pocket $10K off the MSRP, drive this car for a long while and it turns out to be a very good value. That $10K (in discount savings) becomes what in 5-10 years? A pretty good deal. I assume you can get the same $16K off for finance?

If I go the balloon route - yes, $16k off.

Very simple - you get to have your cake and eat it too.

Straight purchase - $10k off + TTL.
Straight lease - $16k off, but MF & RV suck.
Balloon - $16k off + TTL.

I have never seen a balloon discount...mmm. What does TTL mean? I don't know what that refers to
