Snapshots in Time - Post your dashcam vids
#2
I've got plenty of footage from when I started using dashcams nearly two years ago. Just haven't gotten around to clipping everything together yet.
I do have these videos though. Be forewarned, its a bit of a story.. if you want, just skip the text and watch the videos below. Turn down your volume for the first vid - I curse in frustration when the guy hits me. The second video is muted.
Video 1: I pull up to an intersection behind a grey 370z. There is a black Tiburon ahead of the 370z that refuses/does not know how to use the merge lane. 370z gets impatient and honks his horn, then tailgates the Tib until the Tib moves into the next lane. As the 370z passes the Tib, one driver gestures out of his window to the other driver, and the Tib driver caves into road rage and cuts into my lane, sideswiping me.
Video 2: Tib cuts all the way to the left lane - I follow to exchange info. As I come to a stop, Tib cuts across to the right lane to make the next turn. Looks like he's running, so at first I attempt to follow him, but after reading his license plate aloud, I cool off and let him go. Didn't want to give him a reason to continue doing 90 in a 50. Funny thing is, the 370z also made the right turn, and as the Tib blows past him on the right, he also caves in to road rage and floors it to give chase. I turn off onto a side street and make my way to the police station to file a report, then I open a claim with my insurance provider.
A week or so later, the insurance company informs me that the Tib had just been recently sold via private party, and that plates on the car were no longer registered. They would not investigate any further after speaking with the previous owners of the car. With no registered party to pursue, I was forced to pay the deductible. After some back and forth with the insurance company over the next few months, I met with an investigator who found the driver of the Tib. It turns out the driver was a minor without a valid license, and had a history with police (explains the hit-and-run). In light of that, the insurance company refunded my deductible, and I believe the kid was charged.
