VCUSA Sales: Volvo Car USA achieves 13 straight months of growth

Feb 03, 2020 ID: 262079
  • Five percent growth year-over-year with 6,157 cars sold in January
  • Thirteenth straight month of year-over-year growth for the brand
  • Best January sales results in twelve years

ROCKLEIGH, NJ (February 3, 2020) Volvo Car USA started 2020 strong with January sales posting 5 percent growth. Sales totaled 6,157 cars in January 2020 compared to 5,854 cars sold during the same period last year.

The Volvo XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs grew a combined 28% year-over-year; the V60 and V60 Cross Country were also well received, showing strong growth to start the year.

“The XC range continues to attract people into the Volvo family,” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “We anticipate this momentum to continue as we ready the introduction of our first electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge, which has already garnered significant interest from customers.”

GENESIS REPORTS INCREASED JANUARY 2020 SALES

Feb 3, 2020

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., February 3, 2020 – Genesis Motor America today reported sales of 1,399 units in January 2020, a 14.3 percent increase compared with the prior year.

“January represented a strong start to our sales year -- balancing significant year-over-year growth with some limited challenges in supply after closing 2019 with our best-ever sales month in December,” said Mark Del Rosso, Chief Executive Officer, Genesis Motor North America. “It also saw the global and US debut of our new, first-ever flagship SUV – the GV80. I just can’t say how thrilled and anxious our retail partners are to see our new flagship GV80 SUV in their communities across America. It’s the embodiment of our new ‘Young Luxury’ brand positioning so eloquently launched by spokes-couple John Legend and Chrissy Teigen in our first-ever Super Bowl Ad yesterday.”

Question Quarterly Sales

I cannot find some sales this month, like Toyota. Did they move to quarterly?

Nissan/Infiniti & VW/Audi/Porsche made announcements about the change in reporting but I have not seen anything from BMW & Mercedes ...

Thanks!

I don’t think they moved to quarterly. I don’t expect their sales to be up overall, but I do expect their hybrids to be off the charts for percentage growth.

rumors h/k also slowed by parts shortages from china due to virus.
Yea whatever KIA sold in January would have been in production a month or 2 ago and I'm sure they have enough parts in their inventory to last a few months perhaps so the virus situation will not affect it until a few months down the road. It could be that KIA and perhaps even Hyundai was overzealous with the price increases and put off many customers.

I believe Palisade production was shut down this week, so I would not expect the hit until next month.

that is not how car production works... they all try to use JIT, so they dont have much more than 20 days total incoming inventory... so whoever is depending on Chinese parts will really be hurt.

Yup, h/k is now out of wiring harnesses and has shutdown supposedly the largest auto making plant in the world.
