I agree with you. The OP compared the AE86 to a modern Corolla which I disagreed with as I thought it was more GT86 than modern Corolla simply because of drivetrain layout. I had a MK2 Celica Supra. I can't remember what the difference was between the regular Celica.

Was a stretched Celica (firewall forward) but with the I-6 instead of the 4 cylinder. Independent rear suspension although the GTS Celica also got the same rear setup. Otherwise the cars were very similar. There was a GT Celica Supra no fender flares or hatch spoiler and didn't have the sporty seats.
