Second this. For a high performance brand, Porsche has historically been near the top and often right behind Lexus in reliability rankings. I am surprised to see them fall to 4th. It has been a long time since they were out of the top two or three.

Porsche at 4 isn't bad, 2-4 are within points of each other.

I didn't know JDP looked past three years, but CR shows data for the past seven years in their annual auto issue. The CR numbers I quoted were for predicted reliability based on the first three years. I've noticed over the years that Kia and Hyundai reliability numbers have far been below Toyota/Lexus, but Genesis is so new, I haven't notice how they are doing overall, besides what I quoted above. Time will tell on the long term reliability. One more consideration...the 10 year/100K warranty is offered by Kia/Hyundai/Genesis for a reason: they need it!

Yeah, they need it to comfort those still stuck in the past.

The past is a valuable resource (those who don't know history are bound to repeat it).

The issue, though, is that today's Korean vehicles are NOT repeating history....in fact, anything BUT that. The poor engineering and QC on these vehicles began to change about 20 years ago, around the turn of the century. As Mike728 (correctly) points out, it is the public's mind on Korean vehicles that is sometimes stuck in the past....not the vehicles themselves.

I view Lexus as a Toyota = no prestige. Known for reliability and quality, but not much else. If I wanted a vehicle for 10+ years, yup Toyota/Lexus all day and everyday. If I actually want something that is enjoyable and excites me, definitely nothing Toyota or Lexus makes today.

There is definitely a level of prestige to a Lexus. I can give many many examples of times when I’ve been in situations with people and the Lexus draws attention.

There is definitely a level of prestige to a Lexus. I think the brand has two levels of it. The lower end and then the upper end. I also think people lose focus of what the strengths of the brand are and what their competitive advantage really is.

Even after you given them a nice ride in it? There is no way that an LS can be compared to any American-market Toyota....though, true, the LS is sold in the Japanese market as the Toyota Celsior.

If, after you have given them a ride in it, they still think it is like an American-market Toyota, then I agree with JDR76....look for some new colleagues LOL.
