Default Genesis beats Lexus and ranks #1 brand in JD Power Dependability

Just heard this on CNBC radio and wanted to post it. The anchor mentioned they use 3 years of data so it went back to 2017 models. It's important to note that Genesis won the "Most dependable brand"- in that category Lexus finished 2nd, Buick was 3rd, Porsche was 4th, and Toyota was 5th. Anyone sleeping on Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis is making a mistake. They're making stunning vehicles at the right prices and are now proving their quality is up there with some serious brands.

I don’t think anyone is sleeping on Genesis or Hyundai. I will be interested to see the sales figures if there was price parity compared to Lexus or other brands. Would people really pay the same money for a Lexus compared to what they pay for a Genesis?

People don’t pay the same money for a Lexus as they do for a BMW or MB.....so here we are does not exist. Lexus is still a value

Genesis has to be cheaper and it is feature for feature. I think all their models Bear this out.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Even as a GM fan (I like the way a lot of GM vehicles drive), I've said for the last several years that Genesis, IMO at least, leads the industry in the way they screw a vehicle together and (for the money) the quality of the materials you get.

How does Hyundai get to the point where they can charge more than a Lexus?

Hmm. I never said Hyundai can ever charge more. I don't think they ever can. I don't know if genesis even survives as we are in the beginning of a big shift for automakers. I see a lot of casualties in the next 10-20 years.

I think you will find that, in most cases, a direct Genesis-to-Lexus comparison in any specific vehicle or vehicle-class shows that the Lexus costs more.....G90/LS500, G70/IS, G80/GS, for example. Hyundai has been able to get away with the pricing on the Palisade, of course, because of the demand for it....the public simply likes it, period. That may also increase its residual value as a used-vehicle, something that Hyundais have been weak in (weaker, IMO, than they actually deserve).

I keep repeating this, but how is an ES considered a compact? Does this mean I can cram mine into those reserved compact parking spots?

Compact premium car: Lexus ES

I've never been able to figure this out either. I keep waiting for JDP to make a change but it hasn't happened. The Avalon is listed as a "Large Car"??

Easy better products.

If Lexus made better products than the Germans than ppl would pay more.
BTW better doesn’t mean more reliable. It refers to better engineering and technology (more power, suspension, efficiency, tech features etc)

I would argue that G90 and GV80 are better engineered than LS500 and RX350.
Genesis needs to build out full lineup and then market themselves in unique way a la Tesla and they can do well.

Most likely (though I don't know this for a fact), "compact", in the sense they are using the term, probably means "entry-level". The ES and IS are considered the Lexus entry-level sedans....one FWD, the other RWD/AWD. "Premium", of course, means an upscale brand, like Lexus or its competitors.

And the ES has more interior space than the LS. So odd by JD to do this.

Never said you did. Was just wondering what your opinion was on it. That is why I asked you.

And in the value brand, if they improve their lease rates and dealership experience they basically surpass Lexus.

I know many folks favorite is "Lexus's reliability" but in the new car market Genesis just took that crown with this JD award.....
