I think you have to think of the term "CUV" like the term "sedan". An X7 is a "CUV" so is a Mazda CX3, just like an S Class is a "sedan" same as a Corolla. Have to go back to size classes within CUVs like we do with sedans.

Huh? The C in CUV stands for compact. An X7 is definitely not.

It actually doesnt. The C in CUV stands for CROSSOVER.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossover_(automobile)

A crossover—also called a CUV (crossover utility vehicle)—is a type of vehicle with unibody construction.[1] Crossovers are often based on a platform shared with a passenger car; compared to truck-based SUVs, they typically have better interior comfort, a more comfortable ride, and superior fuel economy, but lower off-road capability.[
TOP DEFINITION

CUV
A crossover SUV (also called CUV for Crossover Utility Vehicle. is an automobile with a sport utility vehicle appearance but is built upon a more economical and fuel-efficient unibody construction.

Well Known CUV's :
Mitsubishi Outlander.
Ford Edge.
Mazda CX-9.
Audi's Q5.

C can mean cute, crossover, or compact, depending on how the term is intended or used.

I’ve only ever heard the C in CUV as crossover, not compact. Interesting.

I think this is the problem, the confusion over the use of the term. Google it, overwhelmingly the consensus is it stands for Crossover. Even Ford describes it as such on their website.

SUV is the most general term. Within it you have body on frame. The Honda Pilot is a crossover but it is not compact. The X7 is a crossover but it is not compact. Unibody SUV's are called CUV's or Crossover Utility Vehicles. What you are showing are crossovers that are compact, simple as that. I think you are just trying to troll everyone, is it April Fools yet? lol

Given the fact that "crossovers" are generally becoming the new norm in vehicle-design nowadays (more or less like sedans and wagons used to be, until the 1980s), the industry may (?) actually have to come up with a new definition for what it exactly means....or come up with a totally new term. To use the term "crossover" for a vehicle that bridges the gap between car and truck may be redundant, if or when "cars", as we knew them, are pretty much on the way out.

I actually think it’s odd that we call them SUVs and CUVs. It seems weird to me to have two vehicles with similar shapes, yet we choose a different name based on whether it’s BOF or unibody. Back when sedans made the transition from frames to unibody, they were still just called sedans, because of the sedan shape.

It's still the same I think. Many still call the Pilot or Explorer an SUV even though they are technically CUVs. SUV is just an umbrella term we use for high riding 5 door vehicles. I liken it to saying I need a Kleenix when you mean tissue. Calling the Explorer a CUV is politically correct, calling it an SUV is fine. Personally I don't get caught up with it

Which is totally fine. That's essentially the family tree they are from. Now if someone wants to split hairs and say CUV if it's unibody, then that's fine too.
