To add to this point, I do think the the current W222 S-Class did do something to give the "Mercedes S-Class" name even more prestige/gravitas/etc.

5LS may be the most prestigious LS ever, but it is also the most unpopular ever - relative to its peers.

Why is it a good one?
If the LS was not prestigious over the previous models, you probably would not be in this thread trying to prove otherwise, nor would everyone else.
Think about it. This is the first Lexus LS to go it’s own way. No doubt this new LS makes a big statement. The previous LS models while prestigious, always seemed to follow the German 3. As for sales, lower sales adds exclusivity to the owner....rarity is definitely part of prestige.

Agreed. We're eons away from the time when the LS debuted, and I don't think an internal combustion car could really change things in the same way. But Tesla has truly shake things up, in that they truly made an electric vehicle that was a luxury product.
