Default toyota / lexus recall of 700,000 fuel pumps...

they haven't even finished their investigation yet so there's nothing to actually do, but this was announced today in the news.

I think it’s important to distinguish if this is a voluntary recall or Involuntary recall.

Why would the IS300 be affected but not the IS350? They both use the same engine, and are made in the same factory right?

Probably high pressure pumps for turbo engines.

It’s the low pressure pump. My GS is on the list but not my Highlander.

I see the RC350 and GS350 on there, both use the 2GR-FKS as does the IS350, but the latter is not listed.

Didn't we used to have a specific Car Chat forum for manufacturer-recalls? I don't recall what became of it.

Yes, I heard the announcement today, too, on the car radio. My first thought (tough probably irrelevant) was shades of BMW and their classic fuel-pump problems. I didn't post it because I knew somebody else would.

Fuel pumps, today, with Direct-Injection engines and Common-Rail diesels that operate under very high fuel-pressures, have to operate in conditions that were probably unheard of years ago.

Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2018-2019 Model Year Lexus LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460, and RX 350; certain 2019 Model Year Lexus NX 300, RX 350L, and GS 300; certain 2018-2019 Model Year Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, and Tundra; and certain 2019 Model Year Toyota Avalon and Corolla in the United States. Approximately 696,000 vehicles are involved in this recall. The subject vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough. This can result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.

Toyota is currently investigating this issue and will be developing a remedy. When the remedy is available, there will be no cost to vehicle owners. All known owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by first class mail by mid-March.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter. To see if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.

For the most up to date information surrounding recalls visit nhtsa.gov/recalls. For any additional questions, customer support is also available by calling the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1.800.331.4331 or the Lexus Guest Experience Center at 1.800.255.3987.

It's funny how Toyota's recall site doesn't recognize the VIN number on either my GS or my Highlander. Says they are invalid and to recheck what I entered. I verified they are correct but it still won't find them. It did find them when I put in my license plate numbers. The GS is on the recall list and the Highlander is not.

Wow both of our cars are on the list. Maybe it's not that smart to stick with one brand after all.
