Why do you think Accord over Civic defines the brand?
At one time, 85- 88ish Accord was the top selling car in America.

80's Pontiac's sucked, I had 6 TransAm/Firebirds from 1967- 1974 Model years. Smokey & the Bandit came out in 1977 & that's when sales really took off.

re: DeLorean, I think you mean "DMC 12" when it comes to the model name.

Pontiac's gotta be the GTO. The original, mind you. The GTO was a big deal. Trans Am would be a close second.
Lexus is a tough one. First, I thought "LFA", then "IS F", but I don't know if that's what Lexus is really known for. The original LS 400 is a good one too.
I think Toyota is easy - it has to be the Camry. It's the every-person car. It's what most people think of when they think Toyota. Maybe the Prius, then again...

Respectfully, I have to disagree on that one. GM has never been good at luxury two-seaters....all of their attempts (Reatta, Allante, XLR, etc...) have grossly failed. Even among smaller, less-expensive two-seaters, only the Corvette has survived.....the Pontiac Solstice, Fiero and Saturn Sky were also failures. Chrysler's attempt at a luxury two-seater (the Chrysler/Maserati TC) was also a gross failure...even more so than the GM attempts.

Honda-Accord
Toyota-Camry
Nissan-Maxima 240Z
Mazda-Miata
Mitsubishi-Eclipse
Ford-Mustang would have been Taurus if they didn't change it
Oldsmobile-Cutlass Supreme
Buick-Regal
Pontiac-Trans Am/Firebird
Lotus-Espirit
Chevy-Corvette
BMW-3 series
Mercedes-S or E class
Jaguar-XJ
Porsche-911
Ferrari-308/entry mid engine 8 cylinder model range

Bentley-Continental GT
Rolls Royce-Phantom
Lexus-LS range maybe ES
Acura-Legend TL/TLX range
Infinti-Q45 G35 range
Hyundai-Sonata
Cadillac- Deville

To me it is just the cars that immediately come to mind when you mention the name, cars that have had the most history/generations, biggest presence, iconic models still talked about, seen in movies, shows, cars you likely had in family, friends drove, etc.

Which was first, or most popular in that platform? Was it the Oldsmobile Toronado? I mean we're talking FWD in the 60's. Must have seemed futuristic or something. I even remember Audi bragging about FWD. Today, they hide it lol

For me, 911, 3 series, Corvette, S class, Camry....some on that list are the best they've ever been (#3), some are the worst or near worst (#2), some are average (#1 and #5), some continue to lead (#4)

The 1960s-vintage Rivieras did not have FWD like the Toronado/Eldorado. It would not covert until 1979.

Guess I'm not nuts. Your list is far more vast than mine, yet every one on my short list of 5, is the same as yours.

In college, apparently my wife had an Audi with white leather and a stick. Yet neither she, nor can any of her friends, nor relatives, tell me what model it was. It had 2 doors. Ridiculous. All she knows is it had white leather, a stick, and 2 doors. Nobody can produce a pic either. That's what happens when you grow up rich hahahahaha

In fairness, wasn't the 2-door Audi just known as the "Coupe" or just "Quattro" in souped-up form? "We had an Audi Coupe" may actually be accurate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_Coup%C3%A9
