Clearly it was meant to be light hearted and quirky, and show a humorous side of the CEO and the brand. Whether or not that was appropriate is debatable. I wonder if the glasses and the actual experiment was actually done. I hope Lexus comes out with a behind the scenes, which is what they did for a few commercials in the past.

Particularly when they pan out to show the tower of champagne glasses, and there's no one behind the wheel. At least make it look like it's legit. Weak. 
That would be the worst "Behind the Scenes" ever.
"Uh, well we really didn't run the car with the glasses on the hood. We just stacked them there, and had a close-up shot of a driver without showing the champagne glasses. It was fake" /End scene/
