Default repair and maintenance services for cars not closed

With statewide forced closures of businesses, just me, it seems odd that car repair and maintenance is classified as a "life-sustaining business."

All kidding aside I could see that if you needed your car to get to the ER, but otherwise not really. There are ambulances. Then it would make sense for car repair to be open for emergency/police/fire vehicles.

Who knows maybe once we get through this crisis, people could shift to doing things for themselves again. I would say imho eSports is the opposite of that.

btw "car dealers" must close, so that's a distinction. I dunno if their service departments remain open or not because the wording crosses over.

Can you go and get your car fixed or repaired in California?

No sure but my buddy in FLA said realistically no car = can't take care of life's necessities. Be curious then--is a Costco tire center open, is a service dept. of a dealer open, but sales closed, or are we talking independent garages who have no sales open, etc.

People who need to get to hospitals for work or grocery stores will need their cars. There is going to be break downs or repairs. I would hate to be a person with a car that has run-flats right now....scrambling to get that fixed as they don't last more than 100 miles is just crazy.

The answer is, if they can find a way to stay open and theres enough business for them to do that, they will. So I would say at a car dealership, yeah...they will keep the service side open. Makes sense car repair places would be essential, people have to have their cars repaired if they break.

Remember the order does not mean you cannot leave your house, they're just closing down businesses to give people very little reason to. People need to be able to drive to the grocery store, to the doctor, to the pharmacy, to care for loved ones, etc.

Guess what else is essential? Dry cleaners.

I received an email from one of the local Toyota dealers stating that they will pick up and drop off your car if you need service. They’re adapting to try to stay open.

In so-cal, the lack of car is literally crippling. They shut down all public transport so the car is an essential lifeline to do anything. Car shops here are considered essential.

What standard car shop can fix an EV if it breaks down at this point? I assume you have a gas vehicle as a backup. Any car with specialized parts is worrisome to drive right now.

Tesla shops are still open. No one else can service a Tesla. I have a couple cars other than the Tesla. My Odyssey gets family duty most of the weekend (we still love the minivan)

In the Illinois order, there is a category called "Food, beverage, and cannabis production and agriculture". Which is ironic, since apparently in less than 3 months, cannabis has gone from completely illegal to "essential".

Haha - how ironic... As an Illinoisan, I’m exempt in one category (real estate professional) and there’s a gray area regarding “construction” (running a construction of a restaurant). The only problem with the latter - are any subs actually going to show up😨.

Funny I got my haircut a week ago yesterday. Thanks to all the travel then beginning the distancing my hair was as long as Neil Young in The Last Waltz (he had a thing for Joni Mitchell and not sure if anyone noticed the white on his nose lol). Took my son too and we didn't know schools would be closed at that time (3/13). Good thing we got our cuts then, as all that is closed now by law. I get it's a first world problem but imagine if one's hair is annoyingly long.

I ventured out to Lowe's needed some supplies and one wouldn't know anything is happening. Went to two banks' drive thrus, to pay the taxes (in PA we get 3 bills 2 due 3/31 and 4/1, school 8/31). Volvo in front of me guy had nitrile gloves--I thought dang maybe I shoulda? lol

Well, I guess it's good to keep car service and tire places open. My buddy did have a point many places, no car can't do anything including necessary things.
