both companies are capable of amazing things. no they haven't done anything yet, but both have been working on EVs so it's promising.

I hope they succeed. I was just quoting an old Google reference . If they do launch a new car, I hope they use the direct sales method. Hopefully, Sony can improve the mediocre Honda interfaces

Sonys software and electronics expertise with Hondas car building experience is a force to be reckoned with if they can pull it off.

The new company will aim to bring together Honda’s cutting-edge environmental and safety technologies, mobility development capabilities, vehicle body manufacturing technology and after-sales service management experience, with Sony’s expertise in the development and application of imaging, sensing, telecommunication, network and entertainment technologies, to realize a new generation of mobility and services for mobility that are closely aligned with users and the environment, and continue to evolve going forward.
So basically the extent of Sony's involvement will be infotainment and maybe drivers aids, meanwhile Honda still hasn't developed a viable EV platform and will continue begging GM to use theirs in the foreseeable future.

I don't see what there is to be excited about other than nostalgia for a brand despite it being the worst among all the Japanese OEMs when it comes to electrification. This won't change that.

they make highly competitive prosumer and professional cameras.
sony makes TONS of broadcast video and audio equipment.
they make the playstation which is no joke.
they make millions of the cameras that go in cell phones made by both them and others.
they make competitive but less popular cell phones.

about software, they have tons but industry specific and not stuff average people would know.

That's what I'm thinking too and hoping.

Maybe you are right and just wishful thinking on my part. Honda been making sucky cars IMO for a while and hope by partnering with a tech giant like Sony they can bring it back. I don't know.

Just guessing they will be strong in integrating software with mechanics, etc but just hoping I guess.

And if I can say it another way, they make products people like.

Sony doesn't stand out from the crowd like they used to. Playstation is all about AMD not Sony. On this partnership if Sony was all that they wouldn't need to team up that's a sign of weakness IMO.
