The one good thing about this is that the current W222 S-Class will likely hold its resale value better than before.

Maybe it will look better in person? I am shocked they settled for those tacked on screens on an S class.

agreed.

A year later, nothing has changed with 5LS nor G90, but a continuing downward spiral.
not sure what prompted that? The 2020 G90 was a major refresh and the 2021 LS500 has a bunch of changes too. But neither is in the same league as the S-Class.

Whereas a Lexus just looks like a very nice Toyota, just like an A8 is a very nice Volkswagen
I disagree with those characterizations. I would bet the majority of people don't know Lexus is made by Toyota, or Audi by VW. But even if they do, the LS and A8 are so far beyond their prole cousins that the only reason to bring it up is to put them down relative to the 'establishment' (Mercedes). And a G90 is just a very nice Hyundai.

haha, no one EVER asks when you wear a watch that's not a rolex. like, the only time you'll get questions if you're into funky brands like ulysse nardin that are super crazy over the top and gaudy. if you're into watches, you're generally into them for yourself, or at least that's what i've found as no one pays one bit of attention to what you have on your wrist.

New airbags on the BACK of the FRONT SEATS to protect rear occupants. Would probably have saved Princess Diana's life.

I don't think that will happen for me with that dash setup. The exterior of the car is fine, that dash layout is my primary issue. I don't like tacked on screens, and I don't like gauge clusters without some sort of binnacle. I don't care for the fact that the dash in the MB GLE and GLS has no binnacle over the dual screens, for instance, and my opinion on that hasn't changed:

The all touchscreen interior of the A8 keeps me from wanting to pull the trigger on that, and this S Class interior will likely do the same for me on this generation S Class.

okay, so re: the s-class. i don't like it. i don't like the huge touchscreen interfaces that luxury manufacturers are moving to. i feel like i'd be super annoyed all of the time. i don't mind a digital instrument cluster along with another screen for the infotainment system, but to have everything integrated into one tablet-like device in the center console? i'm not sold at all. i would avoid any vehicle that had this sort of layout.

i understand where you're coming from and i don't like the 'monolith' screen implementations in many vehicles. As you know though, the current ('20) s-class you're interested in has two 12" screens side by side 'bolted on' but just has that top 'eyebrow shroud'... maybe that's enough for you.

About touchscreens in general, with Mercedes having extensive controls through the steering wheel, plus extensive voice control, and not to mention extensive features to control, I'm sure they concluded that buttons are just not going to work for so many functions any longer.

The '20 interior

Thats the coupe, the sedan has much more of a binnacle. I prefer the binnacle in the sedan, but the coupe is better than the GLE/GLS. This is the sedan:

I watched the video, I don't care for it. I don't like the front, how the grill is now contained within the front clip ahead of the line with the hood, rest of the exterior is fine, I really don't like the interior. Too angular, too many hard edges, don't like the big touchscreen, hate the tacked on gauges.

Exterior looks ok, but more mainstream like an E-Class. Interior design is abysmal.

No panic alarm button on the key fob??

I like the exterior much more than I thought I would. I Think the interior will grow on me. This is obviously a tech lovers wet dream and they threw everything they had into making it a technological marvel. Love that aspect of it.
