So let me get this straight- is the horsepower increase to the 3.0 an actual increase in power, or merely Toyota giving the correct power rating instead of BMW's usual undervalued measurements?

It's an increase. Car and Driver as dyno tested both:

Back-to-back dyno pulls with a 2020 Supra and the latest 2021 model prove the new Supra makes more power than last year’s model.

First up: the 2020 Supra. Even with the power-sapping driveline losses of the transmission and rear axle in play, the dyno recorded 346 horsepower and 409 lb-ft of torque. That's an improvement over the 339 horses we observed with a different Supra last year. The extra power is likely due to production variation, but both 2020 models made more than the 335 horsepower Toyota claims the engine makes at the crank. The old thinking that a 15 percent loss happens in the drivetrain is outdated. Modern drivetrains are far more efficient, and the losses are likely somewhere between 5 to 8 percent.

Next up on the dyno: the 2021 Supra. Engine revisions for this year include a new cylinder head and exhaust manifold, plus redesigned pistons. Toyota claims the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six produces 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque at the engine's crankshaft. After a few runs on the dyno, the 2021 engine put down 388 horsepower and 421 lb-ft at the wheels. Remove the driveline losses, and the engine appears to be capable of 400 horsepower at the crank.

Was at a Toyota store yesterday. There were several Supras in and just outside the showroom, each with an additional sticker on them increasing the price by $5000 over MSRP due to "limited availability."

They could sell so many of these if they tweaked the front end styling and gave it a manual transmission.

until then, it’s a big NOPE for me....

2021 Supra is getting the latest update to the B58 engine which BMW uses in the M40i models and is rated at 382hp. In reality thats what it makes at the wheels.

Based on all the leaks and reports, I think the S58 motor from New M3/4 will eventually end up in GRMN Supra but this will be 2-3yrs from now.
That engine will be around 500hp and twin turbo. Since M3 will be getting a manual, i think the Supra will get one as well.

They need to get rid of the fake vents.

Not quite. They dynoed it at 339hp last year and with the new revision, it dynos around 346hp. The gains are pretty minimal so driving experience should be same. I would like to see the S58 get into a higher trim Supra to compete better with the C8 but the pricing would probably be pretty high. Everyone is really anxious to see that new M3 / M4 get released. Should be a monster of a car...

Its says above the 2021 dyno’d 388 at the wheels, that’s a pretty big improvement.

You're right. I was looking at the 2020 variation. That a pretty good improvement. Were the M340s dynoing that high? Should shave a couple tenths off that 60 time.

My X3 M40i with the 382hp B58 is a rocket ship.
Obviously Supra will be even faster.

C&D dynoed both 2020 and 2021 Supra and confirmed the 50hp is real but you feel it in higher rpms most likely.
Torque is identical. No matter what the updated B58 has mechanical changes not just software tune for more power.

That M40i is almost as fast as your M3. Probably more comfortable too

Yup some of the M340's I have seen are dynoing that high and the few that have taken them to the drag strip ran around 12.0 which isn't bad for a heavy car with AWD.

I looked at getting the last model year M3 competition when I ordered my M340. I test drove them both and it was a little too raw for me as a daily driver but I really liked the interior much better. I'm not sure if all 2018 M3's were competitions but I couldn't find a regular M3 near me.

That's actually better than the M3s I've seen. I bet on a roll, the M3 is a bit faster as traction is always an issue with the car. Think about it.... this is BMW mid tier solution and it's faster than any F car. Impressive
