They do have an out if they want - Tesla will let them return the car within seven days of purchase (and reorder/rebuy if they wanted to). On the other hand, if someone bought a model S or X the day before the drop it came with free unlimited supercharging, the post price-drop cars lost that benefit.
Personally, I'd take the $5k over the free supercharging. Gonna take a lot of supercharging to hit $5k

Where is gas prices $2.00? Before Covid, premium gas was 3.80 in the Bay Area, and then dropped to a low of $3.15. Now, it is already back to $3.40. I would argue that most Tesla customers are going to be coastal, where gas prices will always be high compared to states in middle America.
87 is under $2 almost everywhere around here.
