They do have an out if they want - Tesla will let them return the car within seven days of purchase (and reorder/rebuy if they wanted to). On the other hand, if someone bought a model S or X the day before the drop it came with free unlimited supercharging, the post price-drop cars lost that benefit.

Folks on reddit are saying Tesla is doing goodwill reductions. Not sure how far back they'll go, but those within the 7 day window have had good luck.

Personally, I'd take the $5k over the free supercharging. Gonna take a lot of supercharging to hit $5k

I agree. The 5k reduction is likely a better deal.
