A 3 Series competitor with a base model that weighs just under 4000 pounds?

The TLX suffers from almost the exact same packaging issues as the LS500.

The only reason i benchmarked the Model 3 is the 3 series is very similar in terms of interior dimensions and i couldn't find the 3 series interior volume as they don't use that metric. I do know that it seems its about the same though so the 3 series is actually a pretty large car and probably has more interior volume than the TLX. I'm actually surprised that the new TLXonly has 0.1 cubic feet more than the 2020 version.
I agree, and it's reflected in their base price points, only three grand difference.

Was reading some more, I guess the 12-Volt battery was relocated to the rear to help with weight distribution.

330XI is several hundred pounds lighter than this car at 3700lbs. Even my RWD M340i weighs just a tad over 3800 pounds and that's with a 6 cylinder engine so this Acura is severely overweight for a 4 cylinder which means the V6 version will probably be the heaviest in the segment. Acura's 4 cylinder weighs about as much as the M340XI.

Point was, the Audi's are more apples to apples with Acura when we're comparing FWD derived chassis and stellar AWD systems.
yes i do know the latter two are rwd based, and that's absolutely a key factor in why they can look better, but the 2021 IS is also rwd based, yet has a huge front overhang.

my point is, no matter how hard you try to package a compact or midsize fwd based vehicle, the front end is still likely to be fugly in proportion.

and man, how did this tlx get to be so heavy!? i guess a lot of steel etc to make the car very stiff?

I do like the interior in beige.

EDIT: Watching more reviews, the most consistent complaint even among those who rave about the TLX are that the tires are terrible. Despite being 255-width, they squeal like a pig in every test drive. Topher is barely pushing it and it sounds like it's at the Nurburgring. And Alex's review claimed that the TLX had one of the worst stopping distances in the segment. Why did Acura bother making them extra wide if they provide such poor grip? It almost defeats the entire purpose of SH-AWD.

Also, no spare wheel. Have fun paying for 255-width run flats.

What model are the OE tires? Has any of the reviews had a close enough shot to pick it out?

Did you expect them not to gimp on tires? This is the company that was OK with diminishing the performance of their milestone supercar by picking up all-season tire as the default option.

Michelin Primacy

Until the higher-performance Type S model arrives, Acura's much-improved TLX sports sedan is a set of summer tires away from realizing its full potential.
Acura fits the TLX's 19-inch wheels that come on everything but the base model with Michelin's Primacy A/S, a tire chosen not for its grip but probably its long tread wear, ride comfort, low noise, and minimized rolling resistance. For this reason, although the steering is quicker than before, and with progressively wider gear-tooth spacing so the response quickens as you turn the wheel off-center. But turn-in is dull, and the tires squeal even at responsible street speeds.

Acura's choice of a laid-back tire is a shame, as the dialed-in chassis is begging for more grip.

255 isn't that wide these days but maybe they went for a 'light' tire to keep porky pig down in weight

It's the same width as an Audi A8's tires, and a squared setup.

They seem to be Bridgestone Turanza tires of some description. If they're anything like the Turanzas on my IS were, they are not great.

Simple. Drive a little more sedately.

I drive my LS460 slowly and smoothly because I enjoy the driving experience. Folks who drive fast and aggressive probably hate being in their cars

New TLX popped on You Tube with Alex doing the review.

What a spectacular exterior design!
