It looks like the performance is only going to be adequate. I bet the leaders will crush this in terms of performance (M340, TM3 Performance, C43 AMG) but seems competitive now with the mid tier S4 and G70. Maybe the handling will blow everyone away?

We'll see, depends on how the power is delivered. At least it's competitive with the segment.

I guess in the end, it will depend on price. This thing should top out around $50k for 355hp inline with the Genesis. The M340 can be nicely optioned and negotiated to around $60k with around 400hp and the TM3P is only $56k with 550hp. The AMGs cost more but its a Merc. Horsepower is cheap these days

The power numbers are nothing to write home about for this segment, and it doesn't help that Japanese horsepower is nowhere near as underrated as German horsepower.

And, from the test-drive I remember back then, it was nothing but a regular CL coupe with some red-stripe trim-pieces, slightly different wheels/tires, a little extra HP, and not enough extra torque to notice any real difference. It did offer a 6-speed manual, though...something that will probably be missing on the upcoming version.
The CL coupe was more of a luke warm seller, it was not just the Type S, they had a Type S for the TL too. The Type S had a pretty significant bump in power over the standard model, it went from 225hp to 260hp, that is 35hp from the same displacement so it meant the power was achieved higher in the rev range, with the same disp. power down low won't see much gains. I did see a lot of Type S CL's on the street when they first came out and it was one of the hotter cars in the segment, no other competitors were really putting out that kind of power at that price but when the G35 coupe came, sales plummeted for the CL and they dropped it shortly after.

At least the power is competitive which can't be said for the ES, IS, and dead GS. It will depend on how it puts the power down too. The TLX will cost much less too, that needs to be taken into consideration. Handling and drive should be good, it still would have been nice to have a power figure closer to 400hp. If the predicted 45K price is true, that is a lot of car for the money if the performance is competitive.

It all comes down to AWD and transmission. If transmission is properly configured power delivery should be optimal.

If you're about performance, there's no way i'd pick this over a Q50 or Q60 Red Sport. I don't care about all the tech nannies and Infotainment. It's why I got a Red Sport in the first place. Those numbers are disappointing to say the least.

The performance is fine imo, especially the torque. But I can't get over the fact that I don't like the looks of the car inside or out. Not impressed......and it's an Acura. Meh 🤷‍♂️

It won't. The IS was doomed when they first released the specs.

Refreshed G70 is rumored to get a bump in horsepower closer to 400.

That would be a really compelling offering if that were true. At 365hp, its already at 0-60 in 4.5. It may be close to 4 flat if that were true. I'm not going to count Acura out until the reviews come in. Lets hope the car drives better than the specs would indicate...

You're mixing up timeframes. The last gen TL Type S was 2007, about 4 years after the CL met its demise. I actually bought and owned a the last Type S new when it was out. The 2007 era TL Type S is pretty pretty well regarded and clean examples can still command over $10,000 on the used market.
