It is true that BMW lost a good amount of former 3'er owners to the Tesla 3, not the Genesis G70 lol.

i was kind of disappointed when i saw that it's a mid-sized car not a compact car. it looks great, but i don't like the size of the gs, a6, e class, 5 series, etc.
i'm waiting to see what the new compact sedan that acura is purportedly going to bring to market will look like.

This is 2020, lack of dealership network and or marketing is not why the Genesis doesn't sell. It's the simple fact that people choose to opt for something else. G70 3.3T was the first car I test drove, with the internet these days you don't need marketing ads or dealership network to buy a car. My car was bought in TX and transported to FL; also if you're a car guy you do know what a Genesis is yet you don't see mass migration of us enthusiast going for a G70.
You've addressed none of the facts. You've made no rebuttal to how the G70 was delayed by over a year after the press started covering it, how Genesis as whole and not just the G70 sold poorly and saw sales plummet the moment they established themselves and the whole dealership fiasco, how the Genesis G80 sold about 5 times better when it was branded as Hyundai, how the Kia Stinger also outsold the G70 despite being the same car underneath with the same price, but with a more niche body style and being sold from an even less prestigious brand- and so on. Instead, you're looking at a sales chart and using it to validate your own biases.
As for the IS, the old TLX outsold the Lexus IS almost every year, despite being objectively far worse of a performance car. You want to give me an explanation for that too, Mr. "Car Guy"?
I think that's what Acura is betting on with its price- you're getting a bigger car that's a class above the old TLX, but at compact car price. Same strategy as the Cadillac CT5.

So you're relying on a personal anecdote instead of facts, while claiming your anecdote is applicable to everyone else? LOL. Hate to break it to you, but most people buying these entry level sedans are not enthusiasts or "car guys" who scrupulously follow YouTubers.

Acura TLX is not for enthusiasts, the days of Honda making great driver's cars ended about the same time the RSX died. Buyers of TLX are not your typical 3 series/ IS buyers, completely different class of cars unless of course they're non car guys who are just looking for a point A to B car. Lexus still has the reliability thing going for them, Acura not so much. Furthermore, Acura is not even a luxury brand and as such would be best compared to the Kia Stinger which is a superior driver's car since it's not FWD.

Do you even own a G70? I guess not. I am done arguing, G70 doesn't sell because the people buying these cars ( not internet trolls) don't want it. Go to lease hackr and see how many people gravitating towards a G70 even though you can get one for less than 400 per month. Only time will tell if the Genesis brand has the staying power. At least I drove the 3.3 T and I also had a 3IS.
Also, doing a cursory search on Cargurus for cars currently sold in the US, there are 1444 G70s listed for the 2020 MY. As for the 3 Series? 4360 listed for sale for the 2020 MY. So please, go ahead and try to tell me that the Genesis dealership network is not the crux of the problem.
Acura TLX is not for enthusiasts.
Besides, most "enthusiasts" would go after the Alfa Giulia- which in its best sales year (2018) still fell below the G70 in sales. So much for enthusiasts having any say.
Its a great gamble, and we`ll see if it pays off. Acura is more established of a brand then Genesis, but neither is keeping the folks up at night over at the big german rivals. I think the play here is to pull the strings of the Type S lovers. Its worked for the Civic Type R, and if the media blitz is strong enough Acura might have something to get folks into the showroom to get them out in a base TLX. Plus those leases need to be quite appealing.

yep, i fully agree with you, but i just had wished it had been in the same league size-wise as the compact luxury car class. it's a handsome car, though, and i'm sure it will sell well - i'm hoping that it does for acura's sake, anyhow.

Just curious what did you like and not like about the G70?
the g70 was an impressive 'first go' at a compact sporty sedan, but the market has moved at lightning speed. The tall screen sitting on top now looks horrible and old to me, something they are planning to address in the upcoming refresh. Obviously they will be going with the double line lighting all around too to fit in with the other new models.
About the new tlx... i think it looks good and even though it's fwd-based, the sh-awd versions should be very capable.
I haven't seen the interior yet, which definitely needed a huge makeover from recent acura klingon style.

just google 2021 tlx interior and pictures will pop up. i think it's rather beautiful. the integration of open pore wood around the center console/center stack is done so tastefully and elegantly imo.

Also, imho RSX was garbage. Completely outdated car in the era when it was released. Original Integra formula didn't work for early 2000s when NA six cylinders were dominating the performance and market.

The only real issues with Acura's are some don't like the way the 9 speed auto shifts though it was greatly improved with updates in 2017 and the dual screen touch screen which can be annoying to use, many owners/reviewers/test drivers take out their annoyance with it in reviews and even reliability studies. There are no real actual reliability issues with Acura's that leave you stranded or things breaking that needs to be fixed racking up big bills, they are still very reliable in that front. My dad has had 2 TLX's, one was totaled, neither have given him any issues after years of ownership, he doesn't care for the touch screen system either or the push button shifter but overall he likes the car and it has never disappointed him or failed him.
Acura is considered a luxury brand, not on the same level as Mercedes or BMW in most cases but what defines a luxury brand has changed, it used to be mainly very expensive unique vehicles you had to be pretty well off to buy which made them rarer sites on the road but lineups have gotten lower end, prices have gone way down, more and more people can afford and own them, they sell in bulk now and especially with the Japanese you have many sales based from more tarted up mainstream vehicles. Right now I can't say Lexus is a real BMW or Mercedes dealer any more, over half/the bulk of their sales come from Toyota based vehicles, they are dropping V8's, their flagship sedan has a V6 now and it is basically a failure, they are dropping premium Tier 1 model lines like the GS and doing more and more FWD based CUV's, the IS, RC, LC, maybe even LS could be on the chopping block too considering the way they are going replaced by FWD based CUV's.

Crossposting from the other thread, but consumers in this segment do consider Acura to be a luxury brand, and a higher-tier one at that. It's a much more powerful badge than we're giving it credit for.

Acura is definitely a luxury brand . Acura just caters to a specific within the luxury car segment.....A Lexus LX shopper is not gonna be able to visit Acura for the same type of luxury SUV....just like ILX buyer will not be able to visit Cadillac for the same segment of luxury car.
