Cause that engine alone probably costs more to make than an entire GS.

EDIT: Ghosted...

Apart from the deliberately pre-engineered obsolescent long term repair bills, they are great cars: styling, space, ergonomics, power, efficiency, dynamics, ride, refinement, equipment and environmental friendliness.

I can only hope that President Akio is holding off on:
1) 4 Door Gran Coupes like the Germans.
2) SUV 4 Door Gran Coupes like GCL/GLE and X4/X6 etc.
3) 1.5 turbos, 2.0 turbos and 3.0 V6 TT like Honda/Acura.
4) 2.0 turbos, 2.5 turbos and 3.0 in-line sixes like Mazda.
5) V8 TT's.
6) RWD-based SUV's.
7) 5GS.
8) 4IS.

So that Toyota Motor Corp can focus all their money, resources and manpower to catch up on e-TNGA electrification.
Otherwise Toyota Motor Corp is gone...

Because that would make too much sense Somehow Lexus has a priority to build a boat, airplane and another race track instead of new engines or God forbid slamming IS name on TNGA platform.

All jokes aside they probably did test LC-F there and they've used the track for IS refresh PR purposes cause there is nothing to talk about the car except refreshed exterior. They can't talk about actual performance numbers cause engines are grandfathered, what they are left with is some placebo about handling and structural rigidity as the outcome of the new philosophy about new car development on the race track. They came up with that as they were writing the press release.

They also have Fuji track right? The track performance sub brand got named after. Why build a new track and not new engines? OK I will stop now.

IS exterior is great. I love that LFA vibe on the side with the freehand like line.

They built that track to go really slowly in the new IS.

I haven't kept up much on the new S class or CLS, is there/what is the bank account draining issues they built into them that makes them painful after the warranty is up? It would be nice if they were solid.

Engine is too rare, expensive, high maintenance, high revving engines aren't the best for bigger heavier cars/sedans and may not bolt to a Toyota automatic, single clutch would be un suitable for a sedan too.

it's not just a lexus issue, the v8 in general is on its way out except for REALLY expensive vehicles and some just because like camaro/mustang.

This can be completely solved by going electric. 120MPGe and 600+ hp.

There really isn't anything. I know several people with S Classes both W222 S Classes (the current one) that are 5+ years old, and W221 S Classes that are much older and none have had serious issues.

I'm very confident I could trade my LS460 in on an S Class and it would be just as reliable for the years I would own it.

I agree with the PR about the track. Just to make it like they really did put in a lot R/D into an aging platform. Sad they didn't use the new one. Didn't know they were building planes though. I knew about the yacht, that thing is friggen awesome.

similar knowing people here... those who think the s class is unreliable may be thinking of ones in the 90s which definitely weren't great.

it's still true that if a NEW s class has issues out of warranty, they're going to be expensive, but that's just the way it is with high end cars. have a fancy roof on a big house? that costs a fortune to replace too.

Exactly, and the LS is the same way, especially the LS500...

Most Lexus powerplants DO last, unless they have been abused. I still see a fair number of 90s-vintage LS400s on the road.

Thats good to hear. Especially since they change the design once every 20 years.

I just bought a 98 GS400 with only 82k miles so I can keep living in the past of Lexus' glory days. I guess I will hold onto my 92 SC400 and 06 GS430, too, just to have the V8 experience that it looks like Lexus will never give us again.

On a side note, does anyone truly know if Lexus monitors these forums? It's not like there's just one or two naysayers upset over the direction of the company.
