On a side note, does anyone truly know if Lexus monitors these forums? It's not like there's just one or two naysayers upset over the direction of the company.
Glad I am not the only one trying to hang on to Lexus V8 experience. I've now added a 2004 SC430 to my collection.
I think Toyota is sensing the huge demand for the upcoming RAV4 Prime, so I wouldn't be surprised that they are pushing Lexus to put its resources in that area.

Like all recent Lexus products, by the time this comes out, it will be outdated and seriously outgunned. 600hp+ isnt even a challenge or a thing anymore for most manufacturers, especially the Germans in another 2 yrs. By then you are not even in the conversation with anything less than 700hp.

The supposedly do some consumer research to gauge what customers want. Probably the customers inside the boardroom by a show of hand.

There is very little justification to make a new V8. I can see the rationale for cancelling a work in progress V8...but I could also see a reason for keeping it, but the price of a Lexus with a new V8tt will be somwhere in the $125K range. V8 models are going to become very low selling models, worldwide regulations are going to end the large engines. We see this with the Cadillac V8 cancellation

I really don't think they do. I think they think they know exactly what people want and don't do a lot of focus groups or consumer research.

And you heard this from where? What is so much cheaper about developing a TTV6 that they can offer in a $77k LS500 and no other model for 3 years but somehow having a TTV8 would mean they have to charge $50,000 more per vehicle?

I'm very confident I could trade my LS460 in on an S Class and it would be just as reliable for the years I would own it.
Consumer Reports shows trouble years for 2016 and 2018, they say avoid the 2016, suspension, electronics issues. Previous S class model had some trouble spots too, mainly air suspension, electronics, think transmission one year, I know a couple people that had some expensive issues mainly with electronics. I would have to do a lot of research, if I got one I would be keeping it for a pretty long time, 10 years or so, I don't like what I am seeing with the pics from the new one, especially that interior and it seems like all the car I would possibly want for a long while. 4th Gens had quite a few problems, that was not a good time for Mercedes when it came to quality/reliability though I liked several cars from that era, wish they were more reliable.

What you have to understand about CR's ratings are they are relative to that year's cars. So you can't really compare them year to year, just because one year has a lower rating it doesnt mean that it has more issues than years where it has a higher rating, it means that compared to all other cars in that year it had more issues. Really doesn't tell you much once you understand how the ratings work

why does that even matter? Manufacturers need to stop with the spec war.

What are you going go do with a 600+ hp stock car on our roads?

Not saying lexus don't need to upgrade their current engines. I think we are currently at the cap for the hp wars in the luxury market for ice engines. Yeah we probably have 700-800 hp in the high performance models in the future but they will all be EV or hybrid.

Sure nobody realistically needs more than 300hp in the real world, if that, depending on the size of the vehicle, but it matters to the person shelling out over $100k, $200k, $300k for the things. One would think the LC500 would have been a runaway sales success right? Reality shows that numbers matters.

I totally agree. If it was a fire breathing 600hp monster, it would have stolen more share from everyone. Instead, it only appealed to the Lexus core and so sales aren't high as expected.

Nobody said car buyers are smart LOL. They tend to buy into what they are being marketed and what image that goes along with it. They aren't actual car enthusiasts that care how the car drives. Only what magazines say about them in stats. Lemmings. Why is there so many people driving a Jeep Wrangler lifted up? To actually use off road? Nope.
