2021 Kia Sedona Will Have A Stunning Interior

FEB 28, 2020 BY MARTIN BIGG INTERIOR / 6 COMMENTS

The new Kia Sedona's cabin is getting some significant upgrades.

After being on sale since the 2015 model year, the Kia Sedona is finally being replaced by an all-new model. Sales of Kia's minivan have been lagging behind its established rivals such as the Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Honda Odyssey but its replacement will have some big changes to help Kia catch up with the competition. A recent report claimed the 2021 Kia Sedona will debut at the 2020 New York Auto Show in April before the Korean version is unveiled in July, where it's known as the Kia Carnival.

Kia hasn't released any official teaser images yet, but new spy shots released by Club Carnival and Korean Car Blog give us a first look inside its fancy new interior completely undisguised - and it's a lot more luxurious than we expected.

Compared to the current model, the new 2021 Kia Sedona will feature a large widescreen incorporating the digital gauge cluster and infotainment system similar to the widescreen setups inside Mercedes-Benz models, as well as more luxurious materials.

In the current Sedona, the base model includes a seven-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, while the more premium LX trim has an eight-inch touchscreen display. The design of the steering wheel, infotainment system, and touchscreen appears to have been lifted from the upcoming new Sorento, but the design of the air vents is unique.

As for the exterior, the new Sedona will have a more boxy design, while the front fascia will feature cues inspired by the Kia Soul including new LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, and a redesigned bumper. In terms of dimensions, the new 2021 Kia Sedona will reportedly be 1.5 inches longer and 0.3 inches wider than the current model, measuring 202 inches long, 78 inches wide, and 68 inches high. The wheelbase will also be extended by 1.18 inches at 121.6 inches, providing rear passengers with more legroom.

Under the hood, the Sedona's current 3.3-liter V6 is expected to be replaced with Kia's new 2.5-liter turbo. It may also be available with the same hybrid powertrain as new Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fefacelift, which uses a 1.6-liter turbo GDi and an electric motor.

To answer pbm317's question, looks like it will indeed offer AWD.

The great news with the 2021 model is that the
Kia Sedona will be offered with AWD for the first time!

Next-Generation Kia Sedona Interior Spy Shots

4 Sedona poised to become the best minivan on the market!

The Kia Sedona hit the market as a 2015 model and is now finally getting a full update for the 2021 model year.

It has been a bit of a slog for the Sedona in terms of sales, as it has failed to reach the numbers achieved by the likes of rival minivans such as the Honda Odyssey, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Chrysler Pacifica.

Kia hopes that the big changes they are making with the new model will rectify that.

Reports suggest that the 2021 Kia Sedona will debut in the US at the New York Auto Show in April. After that, it will be unveiled as the Kia Carnival in South Korea in July.

While there are no official teaser images from Kia as of yet, we do have some interior spy shots from the good folks at Autospy.net.
We are happy to announce that the interior is a good deal more luxurious than we could have hoped for.

One interior upgrade found in the new 2021 Kia Sedona is large widescreen that will feature an infotainment system and a digital gauge cluster, much like what you see in current Mercedes-Benz models.

While the air vent design appears to be unique, the design of the steering wheel, infotainment system, and touchscreen appears to be the same as what we are going to see in the new Sorento SUV.

A boxier exterior

One the outside, the 2021 Kia Sedona will be showing off a boxier exterior design. The front fascia will borrow design elements from the Kia Soul, which includes new LED headlights and daytime running lights, as well as a new bumper design.
2021 Kia Sedona boxy exteriorAs far as dimensions go, the new Sedona will be longer (1.5 inches) and wider (0.3 inches) than the outgoing model, coming in at measuring 202 inches long, 78 inches wide, and 68 inches high. More legroom will be available, too, as the wheelbase is being extended by 1.18 inches to 121.6 inches.

Big changes under the hood

The current Sedona comes with a 3.3-liter V6 engine, but the 2021 model will likely adopt a 2.5-liter turbo engine.

That 4-cylinder unit is part of Kia’s Smartstream family of engines, all of which are more refined and better with fuel economy. Also new to the 2021 Sedona will be an 8-speed automatic transmission.

2021 Kia Sedona hybrid & AWD

The great news with the 2021 model is that the Kia Sedona will be offered with AWD for the first time!

This makes sense when you consider that the Sedona rides on the same platform as the Sorento SUV. This is sure to be great news for people who live in areas where snow and slippery road conditions are an issue.

Also for the first time, the 2021 Kia Sedona will have an available hybriddrivetrain, which is sure to appeal to those looking to get even better fuel economy numbers. All the official specs will be released in April around the time of the US unveiling.

We will keep you posted on any and all updates as they happen.

If it's the same as the one going into the updated Stinger and Optima GT coming next year, it should have around 300hp and comparable Tq. Not bad.

Default Design sketch previews next Kia Carnival (our Kia Sedona)

Kia released a design sketch to preview the next-generation Carnival, which is known as the Sedona in the United States.

Stylists shun the increasingly unpopular minivan label; they claim they've created a Grand Utility Vehicle whose design is more stylish, more futuristic, and, somewhat inevitably, more SUV-like than the outgoing model's. The sketch released by the South Korean firm indicates the Sedona's front end receives a taller, flatter hood, a bigger grille with vertical slats and a chrome-look frame, plus thin horizontal lights accented by LED elements.

Its overall proportions don't drastically change, no one's going to mistake it for a Stinger, but blacked-out door pillars create the illusion of a floating roof. We don't know what the rear end looks like yet, though the company noted the horizontal crease below the window line links the lights on both ends. The alloys are gigantic, but keep in mind we're looking at a design sketch. The production model will ride on smaller wheels with more sidewall.

We'll need to muster a little bit of patience to find out what the Sedona looks like inside, or what its sheetmetal hides. Practicality is the name of the game in the minivan segment, so Kia will likely pack an array of clever features into the van to make commuting, kid-hauling, and road-tripping easier. Seeing a hybrid powertrain join the specifications sheet would make sense considering the market's on-going shift towards electrification, but nothing has been confirmed at this point. The current-generation Sedona receives a 3.3-liter, 276-horsepower V6 for the American market, and we wouldn't be surprised if it downsizes to a turbocharged four-cylinder.

Kia will introduce the fourth-generation Carnival this summer, and the model will go on sale in its home country in the third quarter. It will begin arriving in other global markets shortly after. Although the company didn't specifically mention the United States, we'd bet on seeing it in showrooms as a 2021 model.

Minivans are getting their lunch money taken by crossovers here, but the segment remains reasonably big. Kia is one of its underdogs: It sold 16,000 examples of the Sedona in 2019, while Honda and Chrysler each found nearly 100,000 buyers for the Odyssey and the Pacifica, respectively, and Toyota reported 73,585 Sienna sales. Dodge's 12-year old Caravan shockingly finished the year in first with 122,648 sales, but it's retiring in 2020.

Styling looks pretty good. Doubt it will grow in the sales in the future. And I never knew the Sedona was still sold

Well, it wouldn't satisfy my want for an SUV lol, still a minivan! But it might be a good option.

Like BMW coining 'Sports Activity Vehicle' or SAV. Kia is going after 'Grand Utility Vehicle'

I won't fully-comment on the styling without a better view (the image posted is quite hazy), but, just from the general overall outline, it looks to me like too much SUV and not enough minivan in the styling. It may not appeal to those who actually like minivans.

There are very few people who like the styling of a minivan lol. People buy minivans because of the utility, not the look.

Those are some insanely low profile tires for a people mover. Still looks like a concept car instead of the real thing.
