2022 (NA yr) Genesis G70

I didn't realize that. It's ridiculous for Genesis not to use that 2.5T.

I wouldn't be so miffed if the Stinger didn't have it, because then that would just be an issue of the platform not being designed for the 2.5T, or it being too cost-prohibitive. But since it's on the Stinger which doesn't cost much more than when it had the 2.0T, there's really no tech excuse, especially when Genesis is supposed to be the premium brand.
I've heard that it's because of emissions regs and Genesis not currently offering any hybrids or EV's to offset their higher displacement engines, unlike Kia. We'll see if things change once they release their two EV's.

I think it's a shame they don't use the 2.5T. When it comes to 2.0-liter turbo fours, I would absolutely go BMW. That engine is actually fantastic. "255" horsepower, with an emphasis on the quotes. It feels responsive and strong all the time, to the point where my reasonably-modern GLI's engine feels old school. I felt the same way about the 3.3T in my friend's Stinger, however. It's a great engine, and "... turbo lag? What's that? I'm just gonna pull, on demand." It was a fun engine to use. I dunno, I think that a G70 would still be a hard sell if the brand name is important. To me, it's not - but, based on my previous brand experience with Kia/Genesis products, I think I'd like it.

Excusable...at least IMO. I've sampled the engine.
And, while I greatly respect arentz07's opinion (he is an excellent and polite poster), although I am not in the market for that type of sport-sedan, if i was, I would purchase or lease a G70 before any of today's BMW 3-series. Not necessarily the case, though, with the former 335i and hydraulic power-steering...that was a superb car that I almost purchased in AWD format.

I feel like Genesis is planning something big with the next gen G70. I'm sure there will he an EV version as well. I also have no doubt the next gen will receive the new engines.
I'd even wager the next G70 will bump up the wheelbase to be more in line with the Stinger (~114.0 in wheelbase)
And with Genesis/Hyundai track record the next gen is likely 1.5-2 years away.

We saw the new Genesis G70 today at the Hyundai dealer outside of Toronto. New exterior doesn’t work in person, in photos it looks OK. The worst part is the lights. Rear end looks good but there are too many decals on trunk. Interior does look cramped compared to other cars. Exterior just doesn’t look contemporary compared to a Lexus IS or a BMW 340
That said, the G80 and new GV80 look outstanding. Another thing, the Hyundai dealer had a discarded engine just sitting around,… not a very luxurious experience
