No, just no. No cup holders, skipping cd players, spartan materials. Before the Germans got competition from Acura, Infiniti and Lexus they were garbage.

Agree, the interiors in these modern BMWs are far and away the best they have ever made. The 7 Series is last gen, sit in a high spec X5 or X7 or an 8 Series...the interiors are stunning.

E38 HK systems were garbage. I've never heard a BMW sound system that particularly impressed me.

W140 Bose, at least the later W140s were insane. Had a line of 4 woofers in the back tray.

I only wish I could have ever heard the old-school Lexus Nakamichi in an LS400.

I personally think the HK systems in the new ones are quite good, better than the base Lexus systems and the Bower's & Wilkins is extremely good.

It was very good, ours had it. Modern audio systems though are way better and more sophisticated.

My wifes 2017 x6m has bowers and wilkins which is like a 3k option. Two speakers blew, they are generic paper cone garbage that cant be more than $5 to produce.

In my x5 i have logic 7, most expensive option available at that time, and so bad that i could not tolerate, and I am not an audiophile by any means. I upgraded it to Bavsound and its ten times better.

HK in my m2 is tolerable i guess. I think its HK anyway, but im sure its still cheap junk under the covers.

i had a 335 with base audio system years ago, i used to hate driving it because the audio system was a total joke.

E generation bmws were great driving machines but not luxury at all.

No, dont let a short test drive fool you. They dont hold a candle to Lexus Mark Levinson systems, trust me.

Nakamichi was famous for audio cassette tapes.
By 2002, compact discs CD's caused Nakamichi to go into bankruptcy.

Thats an issue I have with the S Class, the basic Burmeister system isn't very good, there's no subwoofer and the system doesnt feel as deep as what I'm used to with the ML system. The Burmeister high end sounds incredible, but its almost impossible to find without ordering a car...

Cant comment on merc, but all bmw audio systems are garbage. We have a new x6m on order, which replaces bowers and wilkins with bang and olufsen - i hope its better.

We had Nakamichi in our 94 gs300, it was amazing for the times.

I honestly don't think the audio brand names mean a whole lot.

They used to. These days i think auto manufacturers buy the rights to a certain brand and slap it on generic garbage. I am pretty sure all BMW systems are produced by the same factory, with a range from utter garbage to somewhat tolerable. Same is probably true for most other auto makers.

Yeah I mean nowadays, and all the brands are owned by large conglomerates.

i'm just speaking from a pure comfort perspective, nothing about the audio system
