Let that sink in.
The sad fact is most ppl on the forums predicted it would not sell. Makes you think how Toyota/Lexus management didn’t see it coming.

Because they have a ceo that is hellbent on making everything sporty and Lexus not boring. I dont believe it is Japanese corporate culture to go against the boss. All these products seem like stopgap products, but then you wonder how big the gap really is.

You can fix both of those problems with higher-profile tires .....which, all else equal, should also help the ride quality.

I didn’t realize the 2020 sales were so bad, especially compared to the 2017 model that was already way past its prime. Embarrassing what they did to the LS nameplate.

Oh well, plenty of other manufacturers out there. At least Hyundai/ Genesis are making and effort. I am not sure what happened the the Lexus brand, but they lost their way. 👎

Yeah, I bashed it so hard I got banned from the 5Gen forum. Not my proudest moment, but it is what is it. My disappointment and anger over what they did to the LS was borderline unhealthy. For a while there, I emailed Lexus every day about it.

It really bothers you that much? I like the direction the new LS went. Took a long time to warm up to it for me.

However the market disagrees with you Jill.
Unlike previous four generations of LS's, the 5LS is no longer outselling the S Class and 7 Series; the LS is no longer sales leader of the full size luxury sedan class.
The market's opinion is more important than our own personal opinion, as far as Toyota Motor Corp is concerned.

When did the LS outsell the S class? And I don’t ever believe the LS was ever the leader in the segement...not in tech...not in engines..not in performance...not in options...Germans almost always out performed the Lexus LS. Lexus LS always had good reliability, refinement as well as value...but a lack of a V12 tells you it was never a true German competitor

The LS sales are low in America because 1. the car was made for world markets first 2. sedans are no longer as popular with the rich folks in the US an 3. The Tesla S has become the replacement at the price point. Plus the LS really went a different direction

Couple other notes: most sedans are getting smaller. No bigger. Reliability is bad according to CR but G90, S, 7 and A8 are all bad too. 15-17 LS is not good either. Remote touch is really bad.

LS500 styling starting to grow on me. My friend has a white one in his family with the nice wheels....when he rolls up in it I sort of gawk. It definitely has presence, wayyy more than the S-Class that just came out. I’d have to see it in person but it looks downright boring next to an LS500.

Now, if only we can get rid of the not so smooth engine with turbo lag (though there is zero NVH that makes it through) and back to a good old V8 the 500 would be pretty desirable I would imagine.
