Default Maverick/Bronco Scout spied with beefier tires

Could be Ford's answer to the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk

Yes, good potential comparison, since they are both crossovers. The Renegade, though, suffers from its Italian-sourced unreliability, being essentially a reworked Fiat 500X platform with a traditional Jeep body and interior.

Wonder why Ford chose to go crossover with the smaller Bronco Sport instead of BOF like the mid-sized Bronco. A BOF design for the Bronco Sport/Maverick would help it compete better against smaller, two-door versions of the Wrangler.

The underpinnings and exhaust look cheap

Because the Bronco Sport/Maverick shares it's underpinnings with the Ford Escape. The BS (LOL) is the rugged cousin.

Yes, that part I was aware of....the relationship to the Escape. I guess there just wasn't enough development money (and that could be a valid point) for doing two new separate BOF vehicles.

Probably not enough customer demand either.

You forgot the part where Ford is totally misusing the "Maverick" nameplate.

You said don't want us to bring the Blazer (and GM) into the conversation any more than necessary. You've called more than one of us out on it.

Tha remains to be seen. "Maverick" actually means something unorthodox or independently-minded....which, ironically, did not represent the original Maverick compact car in the 1970s.

I sampled a number of Mavericks back then (a close friend of mine had a four-door 1975 version)...but did not own one. I drove it back home for him, from Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, because he didn't feel comfortable driving on mountain roads.

Older JK model Jeep Wrangler testing along side the Bronco but this gives you an idea of the Bronco's size

Well, as Jill likes to point out, shoe-box or not, what matters is how many of them go out the door in sales.
