What you say on power-ratings is correct, but how long will the more-stressed 2.7L and its turbo actually last in service? I think I'm with Jill on this one.....the Toyota powerplants last forever, given proper service. The Bronco and Bronco Sport, though, will probably sell on its looks as well as its powerplant.

the ecoboost engine has proven its durability and reliability. fear mongering about turbos these days is just out of date thinking.

Having something track tested is only part of the equation if your being subjective. They need to give some of these away to the overlanders used, not new and let them make up their minds themselves which is more reliable.

You really should click links before posting so you can comment sensibly on them. This is not a track test. The truck in question had been driven by its owner--a construction worker--for 205k miles with only basic maintenance.

EcoBoost is one of the most tried and true family of engines. They not only have proven themselves on the circuit, but have been through a series of 'torture tests'. Long story short, they selected a random EcoBoost off the line, run on a dynamometer for 300 hours to replicate 150,000 customer miles. Shipped to Kansas City and installed on a F-150, driven to Astoria, Oregon to work as a log skidder dragging 110,000 pounds. Shipped to Miami Speedway and hooked up to a trailer carrying two racecars, and a payload of 11,300 pounds and run continuously on the track for 24 hours. Then it was taken to Arizona where it bested a Silverado and V8 and Ram Hemi V8 in an uphill towing contest pulling 9,000 pounds up a 6 percent grade. The engine was then shipped to a raceshop and was installed in a 7,100lb F-150 race truck where it practiced locally for 1,200 miles and then the truck raced in the Baja 1000 finishing first overall in the new stock engine class after 1,062 miles. After the torture test gauntlet the engine was shipped back to Dearborn where it was dyno tested and off to the Detroit auto show for a live teardown.

Not to mention that the 2.7 is made from compacted graphite iron, which makes it very durable.

It'll do just fine in an overlander. IIRC it's currently the best selling engine in the F-150 lineup.

Thank you for posting that, I have included the media rollout on the F150 for those who hate to read

I`m referring to the overall rollout of the ecoboost powertrain to the public. 9 years ago when the ecoboost moniker was rolled out to the public, reliability was gonna be a hard subject to crack. They have done extensive media engine breakdowns. The technical data already exists that turbos are reliable.

btw: good job on the edit from intelligently to sensibly

Exactly--Ford trusts the 2.7 Ecoboost for its crown jewel, the F150; but Bronco buyers should beware. Good one.

I don't necessarily agree with everything Scotty says (including this video).....but, for the record, Scotty doesn't think much of the Ecoboost at all.

Find any engine, and you'll find some self-important *** on youtube who doesn't think much about it.

For the record, i've never owned an ecoboost and I picked the V8 because I'm old school and wanted one before they go away for good. But I wouldn't hesitate to trust an Ecoboost engine.
