2021 Toyota Camry Gets a Few Updates
The hybrid is now available in an XSE trim, the touchscreen is repositioned, and there's new safety equipment.
The LE trim is now the base model, meaning the L—previously the cheapest Camry—is no more. The base price will likely rise by just a few hundred dollars as a result; Toyota hasn't released 2021 pricing, but the 2020 L model was only $545 cheaper than the LE. The 2021 Camry hybrid is also now available in the sporty-ish XSE trim. And the more legitimately sporty Camry TRD gets newly standard equipment including blind-spot monitoring and heated mirrors.
We can't tell much of a difference between the 2020 and 2021 designs, but Toyota says the front grille and fascia are revised. There are also new wheel designs and new color options. The XLE gets new leather upholstery. The central touchscreen display now uses a tablet-style arrangement, meaning it sticks out of the dash; a 7.0-inch screen is standard and and a 9.0-in screen is optional.
All 2021 Camrys come standard with an enhanced set of driver-assistance features, which Toyota is calling Safety Sense 2.5. It includes upgrades to systems such as the pedestrian-detection and adaptive cruise control functions.
All-wheel drive was introduced as an option last year and continues for 2021. Toyota says that production of the 2021 Camry starts in October, meaning it will reach dealerships later in the fall.

The screen is much better integrated, but I wonder if this was done to simplify costs (rav4 screen) or "look we have changed something so its a true mid cycle refresh".
-Showrooms in November.
-Love that TSS 2.5 is going across the board, well at least from their press release. Highlander MY21 fleet memo seemed like it was limited to only the HIghlander.
-Only question is that they didnt mention any of the "pre-collision system that can handle left turns at intersections, a “Curve Speed Management” feature for its adaptive cruise control system, and a “Risk Avoidance Emergency Steering” feature for its lane-keeping assistance system.

2021 Toyota Camry Safety Suite Can ID Cyclists and Pedestrians Better
2021 Toyota Camry Safety Suite Can ID Cyclists and Pedestrians Better
Safety Sense 2.5+ will make its debut on the 2021 Camry.
Toyota says that the updated Safety Sense 2.5+ has enhancements that help it detect "a preceding bicyclist in daytime and even a preceding pedestrian in low-light conditions." The update looks to help protect those outside a bit more than the previous version of the system. With rising pedestrian versus car deaths, it’s a welcome addition. NHTSA reports that pedestrian traffic deaths increased by 3 percent in 2018. Meanwhile, highway traffic deaths fell 2.4 percent during the same period, according to NHTSA.
The enhanced system also detects vehicles and pedestrians at intersections while the driver is attempting a left turn. In addition to audio and visual cues, the 2021 Camry could potentially enable the automatic braking in certain conditions according to Toyota.
There's also the new feature that helps drivers overtake slower traffic while using adaptive cruise control. When behind a slow vehicle, once the turn signal is enabled and there is input to the steering wheel to move lanes, the Camry will speed up to start the pass. Helpful if you’re trying to merge into traffic traveling the speed limit in the next lane over.
These new features are in addition to features already found in the Safety Sense suite of active-safety features, including automatic high-beams, road-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist.
While the updated system is only in the 2021 Camry, it'll likely make its way into other vehicles from the automaker as they are refreshed.

This is one of the best interior refreshes I have seen in long time for any brand. . I have never really warmed up to the Camry interior but the addition of the new screen makes this interior far more appealing and all the more better. The beige and black contrasting interior Well done Toyota also have the best naturally aspirated 4 cylinder in the industry, nobody can match the Toyota power rating in addition to excellent fuel efficiency ratings...and Toyota doesn't even use a turbo. Happy the V6 is still around, nobody can match 300+ hp with a silky smooth V6.......I never liked the front end, and I still don't

It may seem like a lazy refresh to us to add a tablet screen but it’s really the only way to make a larger touch screen without having to redo the entire dash. This should hold the Camry over for another 3 years just fine

This is the 2020 with an 8" screen: They could have removed the CD player and moved some buttons around to incorporate a 9" screen without changing to a tack on tablet. Yet they seem to have swapped to a common parts bin head unit and then grafted it to the dash, and then had to reroute the air vents while maintaining most of the IP structure behind it.

I dunno about that new raised center screen. I have a family member with a 2019 SE and have driven it quite a bit when they are lazy to take the wheel, but that raised screen looks bothersome in the pictures.
They should have leveled it more with the Driver center stack. The drive itself I have no complaints about.

Pros and cons... on the pre facelift the center vents are too high to reach easily but constrains the screen size (although those wide buttons are ridiculous). On the facelift the vents are in a better position, the screen has space to grow, but the 'Y' style trim around it is still really weird to me.

they must do market studies to test the acceptability of integrated screens versus floating and guess which won? you see them everywhere across all makes and models nowadays, including the luxury brands.
that or they just start copying each other and the style proliferates!
