Jesus. My first real experience with cars was with a Chrysler product using one of the real engines from the old days and it's always some new and crazy with what's left of the brand these days.....

I can't wait to see how they mess this up now, after being around cars a lot more/having my perceptions changed via more data I'm convinced the only reason I like the "mopar" brand/heritage is because my particular vehicles were reverse lemons so to speak. The more I see from the brand the more I'm shocked they are still alive

Gotta love that image, they tried really hard to make it look like a brand fest when in reality Citroen is DS, Opel i Vauxhall, Free2Move is nothing, Abarth is pretty much nothing, Lancia doesn't exist, SRT is Dodge, RAM is Dodge and Mopar is exactly what?

Mopar was the name of the parts-division of the old Chrysler Corporation....much the same as GM's AC/Delco and Ford's Autolite/Motorcraft parts-divisions.

It was also, occasionally, a nickname used to refer to Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler vehicles themselves....and the old De Soto vehicles when it was a branch of Chrysler.

Default Fiat Chrysler posts record Q3 profit thanks to U.S. trucks and Jeep

The merger with Peugeot is moving full-speed ahead

MILAN — A rebound in car production in Fiat Chrysler on Wednesday reported record third-quarter earnings as production returned to nearly pre-pandemic levels.

The Italian-American automaker, which is finalizing its full merger with French rival PSA Peugeot, reported a net profit in the three months ending Sept. 30 of $1.4 billion (1.2 billion euros). That compares with a loss of 179 million euros a year earlier.
The carmaker reported adjusted earnings before tax and interest in North America of 2.5 billion euros. That offset deepening losses in Europe, Asia and at its Maserati luxury marquee. Latin America, the only other region to post a profit, saw it narrow by two-thirds to 46 million euros.“Our record results were driven by our team’s tremendous performance in North America,” CEO Mike Manley said in a statement.

Overall, the carmaker said global earnings before tax and interest were a record 2.3 billion euros despite a 6% fall in revenues to 26 billion euros.

Global shipments were down 3%, due largely to plant retooling in North American to produce the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer in the luxury SUV segment and the discontinuation of the Dodge Grand Caravan classic minivan.

Fiat Chrysler announced earlier Wednesday that its merger with PSA Peugeot is on track to be finalized by the end of the first quarter of 2021, as planned. To meet regulatory concerns, the French carmaker is selling a small stake in a components maker to get below 40% ownership.

The new automaker, to be called Stellantis, will be the fourth biggest producer in the world.

Methinks this was done more as a lifesaving measure for Peugeot than anything else. They've been on life-support in the EU for years.

Probably no more so than Cerberus, who owned Chrysler after Mercedes sold it, and sounds like the name of a crippling Palsy.

Cerberus actually meant something though

In Greek mythology, Cerberus, often referred to as the hound of Hades, is a multi-headed dog that guards the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from leaving

There was Diamond Star Motors from 1985 to 2015, a manufacturing joint venture between Mitsubishi and whatever Chrysler was called at the time. It resulted in the Plymouth Laser, a randomly selected example pictured above
The Laser was one of a set of triplets, which also included the Eagle Talon and the Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Laser was the same mechanically, except that, from what I remember, there was no AWD option.

That reminds me.....I need to do a write-up about that-generation Eclipse. My and a close friend had some experience with it.
